What happens when you stop silencing yourself?

This episode of Chokeholds & Chill, Jenn and Mal sit down with Dr. Leslie Davis - aka @therealdrleslie or @tinyjiujitsu 💪🏼for a conversation that goes way beyond Jiu Jitsu.

Mallory first experienced Leslie’s work at a roundtable at Roll Models Grappling Camp, where they talked about self-silencing—the ways women learn to make themselves smaller, quieter, more agreeable, and easier for everyone around them.

And that conversation stuck.

We talk about:

🥋 Jiu Jitsu and women’s self-defense
🧠 Mental wellness and self-trust
🗣️ Self-silencing and why saying “no” can feel so damn uncomfortable
🚧 Boundaries in relationships and friendships
❤️ What happens when we repeatedly ignore our own instincts
👊 Why self-defense is about much more than knowing how to fight
🤼‍♀️ Creating Jiu Jitsu academies where women feel safe speaking up
💪 What changes when a woman realizes she doesn’t have to be powerless

What happens to a woman when she starts realizing, physically, that she doesn’t have to be powerless?

This conversation gets honest, uncomfortable, empowering—and ultimately hopeful.

Because strength isn’t just being able to fight.

Sometimes strength is saying no.
Sometimes it’s taking up space.
Sometimes it’s trusting your gut.
And sometimes it’s finally realizing you don’t owe everyone your silence.

🎙️ Dr. Leslie Davis on Chokeholds & Chill — out now.

I met a new friend, @dreadshipreef at @rollmodelgrappling camp, and I found out that she also lives in the Cincinnati area... so of course I had to go train with her!

I'm so glad she invited me to @limitlessbjj for open mat! I had a great time and got to meet, roll with, and chat with some other awesome women (and men). I'm grateful to them for allowing me to drop in, it was a fun time, and I can't wait to go back!

Where else in the Cinci/NKY area has good open matts? Let me know!
