‘WIRED MAGIC’ is on view at HEK @hek_basel (CH) from 27 November until 30 January 2022 during #Regionale22.

The exhibition looks at rituals and methods artists use to combine magical knowledge with the use of modern technologies. Recent studies in anthropology and sociology have shown a resurgence of interest in rehabilitating other approaches to knowledge production, such as witchcraft and shamanism, as a celebration of diversity in the exploration of self and reality. Following this train of thought, artists invent fictional scenarios in which they explore the potential of body transformations, cross-species behaviors, and a renewed communion with nature. In line with technological advances, alternative approaches to experiencing reality are perceived as opportunities to explore unknown realms of knowledge. The exhibition raises the question of whether the expansion of senses and techniques and the connection with modern technology contribute to the exploration of the world and enable critical thinking beyond conventions.

The influence of technology on humans, the knowledge thus associated, and the aesthetics derived from this are key themes for Romain Tièche (@romaintieche). Across two large-surface displays, observes encounter the terms “indolore” and its opposite “endolori” — respectively translating into English as ‘painless’ and ‘painful.’ In this installation, Tièche plays with simultaneity of antonyms and anagrams, with the mere inversion of the first and last letters rendering each term as its opposite; a phenomenon is unique in the French language. In a brief moment of subliminal perception triggered by a blurring of the video, a new image is inserted between the letters, dissolving the anagrams. This blink-of-an-eye moment is repeated continuously, until the two terms overlap and the positions swap over. The artist deploys a method from marketing, in which the customer is influenced subconsciously. The expressive aesthetics of the black uppercase on a white background are modelled on the warnings found on cigarette packaging, which provide a paradoxical warning against what the packaging itself contains. Indolore, Endolori thus reflects the perversity of propaganda—the interplay of production consent and injunction — embodied in those marketing techniques.

'TRAUMPFADE. TRACES OF FIRE.' at FABRIKculture @fabrikculturehegenheim (Hégenheim, F) is on view until January 5, 2020. #Regionale20⠀
⠀
Choose a song and under the influence of this song find an artist with whom you and your art want to be together in a room and take care of it. This was the rule of the game that 6 master students from the institute gave each other. So how do we navigate with these different interests in a not so binary way and also why?⠀
⠀
The Aboriginal Songlines are considered to be one of the first geomantic navigation systems in the world. They sing invisible lines through the earth, describe it and connect with their bodies on the journey. Earth magnetism (red ochre on the skin) and highly sensitive proteins (feathers) are instruments, as is telepathy.⠀

Nord Théâtre @nordtheatre in Saint-Louis (F), a satellite of the M54 project space, is dedicating a second consecutive year to the presentation of art videos and performances by artists from the three-country region. #Regionale20⠀
⠀
The panorama window serves as a projection screen in public space and will show videos every evening that deal with social issues such as integration and identity, especially sexual issues.⠀
⠀
Highlights of the exhibition programme await visitors on the evenings of 24 November and 1 December. Eight artists will then show their performances based on their current research. During these evenings there will be moments with the strong presence of the performances and moments in which video art takes us into another world, the whole thing always like - peppered with sociable moments.⠀
⠀
Artists: Video: Eléonore Cheynet, Emma Cozzani, Margarit Lehmann, Raphael Reichert, Romain Tièche⠀
Performance : Chantal Ducommun, Esther Hiepler, Marianne Hollenstein, Irène Maag, Philip Tok & Martje Brandsma, Astrid Welburn
