"Ecological Urgence" by Tesla Kawakami (@romanticallyuninterested) is on display on Mercer St between Westlake Ave N and Terry Ave N in South Lake Union!

“What is possible when we refuse the impulse to look away and see the beauty unfolding in damaged places? These works confront our collective apathy by transforming overwhelming data into scenes of unexpected aliveness. It’s not merely documentation of loss, but a vibrant testament to persistence.“

In the midst of some unsettling months, I got to be in the mountains with writers, artists, musicians, cows, and a cat :) It was hot and hazy. I had a lot of pent up energy though I barely slept. Most of it went to wandering around, trying to figure out what to do, just going with the motions (ok I made some progress on the 2nd draft of my novel). I think this is what artists call ~~cultivating creativity~~Thanks @vacenterforthecreativearts for giving me the space to wander, not knowing what to do~Grateful for all the *unexpected* gifts :)

P.S. I was so nervous to read work I had to sit down…barely remember what happened~how much more unsettled will I feel the closer I get to my dreams, myself, who I’m supposed to be?? ~~inhale, exhale~~namaste ~~i miss these people a lot 🥹

Virginia is for lovers. ❤️

Currently @vacenterforthecreativearts on my artist residency. We all live secluded on a hill, not far from Lynchburg, VA.

From my window I watch squirrels, red and brightly colored birds, hummingbirds, a tiny kitten, and an entire universe of insects, plants, and flowers.

Nothing distracts us, and nobody is running away. So about 20 artists live here together, in our little paradise, making work, sharing ideas, and delighting in each other’s company.

There have been wonderful readings by @love_your_life @rachel_coonce
Studio visits with @delnadastur and @romanticallyuninterested
Concerts with Paul Reiser and @spicercarr
And many many more events, encounter and surprises.

What a gift it is to be here.

This month I wanted to try doing a pixelated painting, so I did a portrait of my friend, @romanticallyuninterested !

I made a grid on the canvas, then painted the portrait one tiny square at a time. The whole time I was panting this, I had no idea how it would look in the end. It was tough, but fun to get out of my comfort zone!

This will be the print this month for the art club ✨
