a week and change now removed from perhaps the most transformative experience of my life (certainly in recent memory). @theatrebigbear gave me the opportunity to do nothing but create art for 17 straight days up in idyllic mountain scenery. from night rehearsals by the lake, to nature walks, to table reads and rehearsals, to tamales, and hot tubs — i savored every second. i made new friends, tried new things (i even had a panic attack in an escape room!), but most importantly wrote and directed my first play in a very long time. I don’t know what will come of Deadname next, but writing it has opened new creative doors for me. And having the chance to act in my fellow writers’ plays has reignited a fire in me i thought was long dead. It was such an honor to share the stage again and i can’t wait to be back up there soon!

Thank you to my cohort, my actors, Kacie our creative mentor, my friends who made the trip to see our show, and everyone involved with the Big Bear Theatre Project! You all mean the world to me.

The Big Bear Theatre Project’s inaugural Creating Worlds Playwright Festival

What a transformative, challenging and beautiful time I had in Big Bear developing new work with the most talented people.

All the love and thanks to everyone at @theatrebigbear, @kacie.rogers, and my fellow playwrights. I feel so lucky.

This is only the beginning of “My Live Studio Audience.” 🙇🏼‍♀️😈

Finally taking a breath and feeling so much gratitude for my experience leading @theatrebigbear ‘s inaugural playwrighting workshop! To each of the playwrights — thank you so much for being so kind, brave, and generous with your gifts (and for trusting me and my sometimes woo woo processes lol), to the Big Bear Theatre Project artistic team — thank you for all of your trust, support, and for creating a space that puts artists first! To the community of Big Bear — thank you for your enthusiasm and open hearts toward art and artists in your beautiful city! Your feedback night after night was incredibly encouraging and I’ll not soon forget your warmth.

The life of an artist isn’t easy but experiences like this are what make it so so rich 🙏🏾🙌🏾🫶🏾
