In 2012, I bought FL Studio because I was convinced I was gonna be the next Kanye.

Then I opened the mixer, and froze.

I remember looking at all those knobs thinking, “There’s no way I’m ever gonna understand this.”

Back then, YouTube wasn’t what it is today, and every tutorial felt like it skipped five steps I was already supposed to know.

So after about two years, I quit making music.

Last night, I mixed my first song on an SSL 4000. The coolest part wasn’t touching a legendary console; it was finally understanding what I was doing, and why.

Looking back, I didn’t quit because making music was too hard. I quit because I confused being overwhelmed with not being able.

Turns out, I was never fighting the mixer; I was fighting the story I’d been telling myself for 14 years. (Shoutout to the fam @ronic_mils & @thisisnivea for the cameo 🙏🏾) #musicproducer
