✨ Inspired by tradition. Created for the runway. ✨

This look was created for Afro Hair & Beauty Live and draws inspiration from traditional African hair threading techniques that have been used for generations to stretch, style and protect natural hair.

For this piece, we used yarn to create sculptural forms and bold shapes, taking inspiration from traditional threading methods while giving them a contemporary runway feel. I love how a simple material can be transformed into something so striking, proving that creativity is often about how you use a technique, not how many products you have.

Our hair has always told stories. Long before modern styling tools, African communities were creating intricate hairstyles that reflected creativity, skill, culture and identity. This look is my tribute to that legacy.

African hairstyling has always been innovative. These techniques may be centuries old, but they continue to inspire us today. 🖤

I had a deep cut on the index finger of my dominant hand just before the show. 😅 Not ideal when you're spending the day styling hair! The glove I'm wearing helped protect the injury so I could keep creating.

THE BARBERSHOP.....⬇️

As a kid, my mum used to take me to the barbers until I was old enough to go alone.

For some women, this can be an uncomfortable experience depending on the shop, yet they do it without hesitation because their sons deserve the best. 💯

Looking back, I always felt this was something my dad should have been doing with me...

But he wasn’t around.🤷🏽‍♂️

Now, as a father, I take great pride in bringing my son to his barber (who he also calls uncle).

It’s about more than a haircut, it’s a moment to bond, to lead, and to bring him around good men.

Moral of the story: while mums will always make sure their sons are looked after and fresh, there are roles fathers need to take ownership of.

I BELIEVE this is one of them!

Big love to the single mums holding it down and to the fathers stepping up without excuses. You’re both doing what’s needed. 🙏🏼💙

TYLERS FIRST TIME....⬇️

Tyler has been growing his hair for a number of months now but was nervous about getting it done because he was told how painful it can be 🙈

Thankfully @rooted.bytee made him feel completely at ease and he was well looked after. 💯

lil man began growing his hair while the hair on top was already at a certain height, therefore we need to wait for the sides to catch up, but for now he is over the moon with his fresh look 💙

He was shaped up after this by Vinnie at @icon_barbersltd and the final look was 🔥

Moments like this are never about which parent paid for what, its simply about ensuring the child is looked after and has their needs taken care of.

Something that i will never complain about 🙏🏼
