Save this post for your ~13mi central coast wine country ebike cruise:

Step 1: pick 2-3 wineries/vineyards in the Ballard/Los Olivos area (we chose @buttonwoodwinery and @rideauvineyard ; we had planned Lincourt & Vincent or Roblar as well but didn’t have time for that many)

Step 2: park and start your ride from one of the many public lots in Solvang. Leave Solvang around 10:30-10:45am depending on your first vineyard of choice; most vineyards open at 11:00am (try not to get any food at the vineyards, you’re going to eventually picnic at a lavender farm). Be sure to grab some walnuts from @ballard.walnut.grove whenever you pass their stand

Step 3: pickup lunch to go from @bobswellbread (Ballard) or Gandolfo Market and Deli (Los Olivos) then head to @clairmontfarms lavender farm for a beautiful picnic among a lavender field. Sean is one of the owners and was wonderful to talk to and learn a little about his lavender distilling process and his life in general.

Step 4: head over to @rancho.olivos for an olive oil and balsamic tasting, great conversation, and be sure to grab their olive oil worthy enough for a Michelin starred restaurant

Step 5: work your way back to Solvang via Refugio and the bike path along Hwy 246 and arrive at @rootedvinecellars . Iaon (winemaker/owner/diver/badass) has extensive knowledge of oenology (learned that one from him) and has made some damn good wines. He’s very easy to talk to, but if you’re an introvert and need a conversation starter, ask about red flags.

A quick jaunt in the town before heading home! Swung by the Solvang Theatre and the nice custodial staff let us check it out, grabbed a sausage and a stein at the Sausage Garden, then @jeffscotcarey discovered our new favorite tasting room! @rootedvinecellars is awesome, the owners are rad, vibes are impeccable, and their artwork is gorgeous (and it looks different upside down). Definitely check them out! Until next time, Solvang! #solvang #santaynezvalley #winetasting #hanschristianandersen #tastingroom

New tasting room alert! My dear friend, Iaon Pohilt, has really been putting in the work the past few years I’ve known him. A live aboard sailor and accomplished free diver, our intersections continue to cross in wine and hospitality. He’s really covering all bases from wine tours, wine making and now a new tasting room in downtown Solvang. Its contemporary style, gripping art, hanging plants, and warm woods put me at ease instantly. The wines are stellar, small lots, hand crafted, percision, care, stories in every glass. If you are in Solvang you must visit. Go early to avoid the evening rush and talk to Iaon in depth. Rarley is the winemaker pouring the wines. Cheers brother and thank you for the tasting! @rootedvinecellars @rootedvinetours
