Low on cash, High on life!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
1st week of May and I’m not cutting laps on the midi and smashing pastries in Chamonix. I had full intentions of returning as I have done for the last 3 years until only recently.

The fuel, war and economy started me thinking about staying in NZ, trying to go skiing felt like a very 1st world problem in comparison to people existing in war zones.

But the clincher was looking back at the past two years. In that time I have had 3 friends die in the mountains. All while guiding! I had two significant accidents and then two other good friends had significant accidents where they are very lucky to be alive. Myself and all of the above were/are mountain professionals and are considered experts.

No one is infallible in the mountains. We have to make thousands of correct decisions and statistically it’s pretty hard to not make a bad one when you are doing it a lot! Taking some time off improves the odds and allows time for a reset.

The mountains will continue to be there and at the moment it feels right to be taking a break, hanging out with my wonderful fiancée and sport climbing at home.

Thanks to my sponsors for supporting this and I wish all the usual culprits a safe and wonderful spring season. Sounds like it’s pretty dry, which is helping my fomo but hopefully it turns on for you!

Some random highlights from the last years. Some snippets of skyway and Monoman - RIP, skiing the maudit diagonal, the CG on Les courtes, Rosie smashing pow on the VB, and more of my favourite humans.
