Over 100 incredible high school artists joined us on campus for two weeks of creativity, collaboration, and discovery. Led by the brilliant Gillan, Sheng, Haniko, Roshini, Adam, and Dylan, we made work, visited museums, heard from inspiring visiting artists, and closed with a stunning final exhibition. Thank you to everyone who made it possible!

When I first started grad school, I was terrified I’d be reliving my last two years of undergrad. Iykyk. I had left academia with such a bitter taste in my mouth that I’d blocked out most of those memories. I didn’t expect to make friends—I was ready to keep my head down, get my degree, and get out. But then I met my cohort.

Even before we met in person, @gene_studio and I started messaging on Instagram. They told me, “I wasn’t really expecting to make close connections in grad school—but I’m already so excited to meet you.” Now, they’re one of my best friends.

From our first dinner at @gillian.n.haigh and @ashleymichellehannah’s place—sharing our application anxieties, laughing as if we were old friends and watching @misty.study turn progressively more and more red from wine (not knowing that she’d later become my favorite roommate).

To self-guided field trips with @adamthompsonxoxo and @d.a.gonzales—running and screaming in galleries, debating intellectually and jokingly whether or not something in the show was actually “good.”

To making protest signs with @jazzygirl______ and @feli.x.li, being able to share in tears, rage and love— and organizing fundraisers for fire relief, piling into cars for frantic Costco hauls with @theirnameisricardo.

To studio visits with @spaghetti__warehouse that started as critiques and ended as longer therapy sessions about how we survive the beautifully tragic mess of life.

And lately, getting even closer while preparing for this show—clinging to the roof as @victorballesterosg drove, scaling sketchy ladders, and theorizing intensely about the curation with @roshini_agarwal and @markelecullins.

I never would’ve believed I’d find such a weird, wonderful family in grad school—but here we are. We may not be graduating together, but we’ll always be one hell of a cohort.

Huge thanks to @kitagallery.la and @chuwen.insta for giving us the space to share one last show together.

This year RUSCHWOMAN has been beyond-honored, dreams-coming-true-all-over-the-place, truly grateful hostess to five exhibitions including solo presentations of Zachary Rawe and Judy Fiskin, as well as a series of group exhibitions that included works from Noelle Africh, Roshini Agarwal, Shinsuke Aso, Louise Fishman, Krista Franklin, Stephen Jones, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, Stephen Irwin, Suzanne McClelland, Nicolette Mishkan, Sands Murray-Wassink, Jared Packard, Julia Rommel, Andrew Sokol, Carrie Yamaoka, Woodley White, and Ryan Wilde. RUSCHWOMAN is so thankful for the trust, collaboration, and openness all of these visionaries brought to this year of projects. Year III’s exhibition season continues in 2024, beginning with a solo exhibition by Anna Campbell, details forthcoming.

Thanks to the artists, community, collectors, critics, and other denizens near and far who populate an intrepid shared ecosystem of art discourse.

Be good to each other. Emphasize kindness. Provide access. Work for the freedoms of someone/s else. Be witchy. Foster jouissance.
