The thing I love best about this pattern by @ross.mcsweeney is that you can make multiples and connect them together so that you can have an entire meadow of flowers, bees and butterflies moving around with the turn of one wheel. SNAKE TAIL LASER CUTTING 🐍🫵🤩✨ 🇫🇷 Après avoir réussi a créer chaques pièce du corps pour ce serpent articulé réaliser avec mon laser @acmer_official P3 , j'ai du réaliser la queue 😳 Ont pourrait croire que c'est plus simple mais au final , c'est complexe de réussir a créé les bonnes pièces au bonne dimensions et que se soit plutôt esthétique , je pense que @ross.mcsweeney ne me contrediras pas 😊😅 Mais j'ai réussi et la queue est celle d'un serpent à sonnettes 🐍🛎️🔔 Maintenant que c'est fait , je vais devoir attaquer la tête et la...la complexité est juste mortelle mais je vais travailler jusqu'à réussir 💯✊💪 Laisse un commentaire concernant cette queue de serpent 😉 AIME PARTAGE COMMENTE ET SUIS MOI ---------- 🇬🇧 After successfully creating each body part for this articulated snake made with my @acmer_official P3 laser cutter, I had to make the tail 😳 You might think it's simpler, but in the end, it's complex to create the right parts in the right dimensions and make it aesthetically pleasing. A very close friend experienced the sort of tragedy that defies any sort of standard processing. I won't dwell on that aspect, because it is not my tragedy nor my story. But, in the face of the circumstances, I needed to do something with my hands to avoid fully liquifying. Sisyphus already held a place in our friendship, but the artist in me couldn't help but cling to his symbolism in the context of grief as well. So, that is how this came to be. I think this is the most time I've ever spent on a single project. Almost 100 hours in total, over the span of 15 days. Appropriately enough though, it was a true labor of love. Unfortunately, a small wooden toy can't fix anything or make the world hurt even a little less. But, it gave me a place to channel the heartache as well as something tangible to represent those feelings when words utterly fell short. Immense credit to the creator of the file itself, @ross.mcsweeney. His design is gorgeous, but it was the meticulousness of his instructions that kept me from utterly crashing and burning. This was my very first time using a laser cutter or attempting a project of this complexity... which meant user-error abounded. Clockwork *apparently* needs to be precise, and beginner's luck can only do so much heavy lifting when diving headfirst into an entirely new design program/medium. In a way, my blunders reaped unexpected benefits. Note: If you let your mind wander too much while individually sanding hundreds of tiny gears and connectors, you WILL overshoot and repeatedly stab yourself with your pointy-as-hell jeweler's files. Zoned-in Zen is the only option.

Riverside Automaton - Work in progress. An automaton featuring kingfishers, a cormorant, fish and a few reluctant drips. Let’s be honest, not every attempt to wrestle mechanics to our will works as we’d like and this one has ended in compromise. The ripple concept was simple, but no matter how I pleaded with it I always found it caused a slight strain on the rest of the mechanism so I simplified the ring movement to a few gentle drips. If you’d like to see what actual rain looks like (and I can tell you it looks pretty awesome) then please visit @ross.mcsweeney who makes this concept as a wonderful kit and was kind enough to chat to me about his mechanism and lend a hand adapting it. I am close to completion now with this automaton and currently trying to take a final video.
