Feelings Aren’t Facts.❌🗣️

In my podcast with Ross Mandell, we spoke about how emotions can influence the decisions we make with money and opportunities.💰🌟

When something is already winning, emotion tells you to jump in.🏆📈

When something looks uncertain, emotion tells you to stay away.❌📉

But the best opportunities aren’t always the most obvious ones.

Sometimes you have to look past the hype, reputation, and appearance - and evaluate the actual potential.📊

Don’t let emotion make the decision. Learn to assess the opportunity.💯

Is Greed Always a Bad Thing?🤷‍♂️🫢🔥

In my podcast with Ross Mandell, we spoke about how ambition, passion, and even “greed” can manifest in completely different ways.👀

You can be hungry for material things - or hungry for health, self-improvement, excellence, and becoming better.📈

For me, how I present myself is part of the standard I live by.

The details matter. How you dress, how you speak, how you carry yourself - it communicates how much you care.🤝🎯

How you do one thing is how you do everything.

💰 Got extra money? Stop automatically throwing it at your mortgage.

Most people are taught:

Make more money → pay down the house faster → build more equity → become financially secure.

But there’s a problem…

Home equity is wealth you may not be able to access when you need it most.

Put an extra $50,000 into your mortgage and that money is now trapped inside the walls of your home.

Want it back?

You may need to refinance, apply for a HELOC, qualify based on your income and credit, and ultimately get the bank’s approval.

Instead, consider positioning extra money in assets and strategies that prioritize three things:

ACCESS.
CONTROL.
LIQUIDITY.

Put your capital somewhere it can potentially grow while remaining available to you for opportunities, emergencies, investments or income.

Because having a $2 million house with $1.5 million of equity might make you look wealthy on paper…

But you can't buy groceries with home equity.

You can't invest it into an opportunity without accessing it first.

And you can't assume the bank will lend it back to you exactly when you need it.

I’m not against owning a home.

I’m against confusing equity with liquidity.

Your home is where you live.

Your money should be positioned where it gives you choices.

Stop asking only: “How quickly can I pay off my mortgage?”

Start asking:

“How much of my wealth do I actually control?”

I recently sat down with the incredible Ross Mandell on his Going Public podcast to share my story!

We talked about my journey from turning pro at 15 and skiing 300 days a year to enduring 27 surgeries and a battle with chronic Lyme disease. Walking away from professional skiing was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, but it led me to rebuild my life as a real estate developer in Denver, advocate for chronic illness awareness, and find strength in the face of adversity.

🏦 Before you make that extra mortgage payment, ask yourself one question:

How easy is it to get that money back?

Send an extra $500 a month to your mortgage and it becomes home equity.

Want it back later?

You may need to refinance or apply for a HELOC. That means going back to the bank, meeting its lending criteria, and qualifying based on things like your income, credit, debt and the value of your property.

The bank can say no.

Another strategy is to redirect that extra cash toward a properly structured participating whole life insurance policy.

As cash value builds, you may be able to access capital through the policy’s contractual features or borrowing options without going through the same income and credit qualification process as a traditional HELOC or refinance.

That can give you something mortgage equity doesn't always provide:

ACCESS. CONTROL. LIQUIDITY.

I'm not saying you should never pay down your mortgage.

I'm saying you should understand the difference between building equity you may have to qualify to access and building a pool of capital designed to remain accessible while also providing permanent life insurance protection.

The goal isn't simply to become mortgage-free as fast as possible.

The goal is to build wealth you can actually control.

Policy guarantees depend on the insurer, contract and premiums being paid as required; dividends and some policy values may not be guaranteed. Policy loans/withdrawals can reduce cash value and the death benefit and may have tax consequences.

🏠 You say you have $500,000 in home equity. But can you actually access it?

This is why I say home equity can be an illusion.

Your house might be worth $1.5 million and you might only owe $1 million.

On paper, you have $500,000 in equity.

But try accessing that money after you’ve lost your job, your income has dropped, your credit has changed, or you no longer meet the bank’s lending criteria.

Suddenly, that $500,000 doesn’t feel much like your money.

To access it through a refinance or HELOC, you generally have to qualify.

The bank looks at your income.
Your credit.
Your debt.
The property.
Your ability to repay.

And if you don’t meet their criteria?

They can say NO.

Think about that.

You spent years making extra mortgage payments to build equity—and when you actually need the money, you may have to ask a financial institution for permission to access it.

That’s the difference between net worth and liquidity.

Equity may make you look wealthy on paper.

Liquidity gives you options.

Build wealth you can access, control and deploy when you need it.

🏠 Is it better to RENT where you sleep… or OWN?

We’ve been conditioned to believe that buying your home is always the smartest financial decision.

But owning a home and building wealth are not necessarily the same thing.

When you buy, you may tie up hundreds of thousands of dollars in a down payment, closing costs, mortgage payments, property taxes, maintenance and repairs.

When you rent, you may be able to keep more of your capital liquid, accessible and working for you.

The question isn’t simply:

“Should I rent or buy?”

The better question is:

“Which option puts me in the strongest financial position?”

If renting a $2 million home costs significantly less each month than owning it, and you can invest the difference into assets that produce income and compound over time, renting may actually be the wealthier decision.

Your home is where you sleep.

Your assets are what should help you build wealth.

Sometimes owning makes sense. Sometimes renting makes sense.

Run the numbers—not the emotions.

Would you rather own the house or own the assets that could eventually pay for the house?
