The 2000 Burton Balance snowboard graphic, created by artist Mike Parillo, features a legendary piece of snowboard art titled "For Jamil." It is widely considered a "holy grail" collector's piece within the snowboard community due to its deeply emotional background and unique design concept.

The Backstory: "For Jamil"

A Memorial Tribute: Mike Parillo painted the graphic in the summer of 1998 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The prominent abstract eyes and face serve as a direct emotional reaction to the tragic death of Jamil Khan, a legendary local snowboarder who was killed in an avalanche that prior winter.

Take It or Leave It: Unlike typical commercial commissions, Parillo created this as a standalone fine-art piece. He told Burton, "This is it: take it or leave it," refusing to alter the layout for the shape of the boards.

The Art Concept & Legacy

The Puzzle Design: The complete painting was printed across the five different size boards manufactured for the 2000 Balance series. Each individual board featured only a section of the art, meaning collectors have to line up all five sizes next to one another to reveal the full canvas.

Rider Prestige: The Burton Balance was engineered as a high-performance halfpipe board. Its status was cemented by the culture's absolute icons, primarily ridden and made famous by the legendary Terje Håkonsen, as well as Olympic gold medalist Ross Powers.

Ryo Aono leads the men’s all-time SB Park & Pipe World Cup wins list, but both @yuto_totsuka and @scottyjames31 are only one W back…👀

Who’s going to be at the top by the end of next season?

Looking at the top podium-getters in FIS Snowboard Park & Pipe World Cup history, where @xtongc leads the way with 35 and @annagassersnow sits just two back with 33!

SB halfpipe has been a World Cup event since 1994/95 so it’s a pipe-heavy list, but both @cocomonsan and @leila_iwabuchi have 19 podiums to their credit and could very well move into the top-10 next season to add some more slope/big air flavour…📈
