There is a very special story behind our latest tartan scarf: the Thomas Boyd.

Our friend Ross and his fiancé Alex asked us to create a unique design for their wedding day in memory of Ross’s father who sadly passed away when Ross was very young.

We got to work with Ross and Alex to design a new scarf based on the Stewart of Appin tartan - being the tartan that Ross’s father used to wear. We paired it with a deep whirlpool green and voila: the Thomas Boyd tartan scarf was born.

By surprising all of the wedding guests with the scarves made in loving memory of Thomas Boyd, he was remembered and celebrated by all on Ross and Alex’s special day.

The Thomas Boyd tartan scarf is available to order now at tartanscarfcompany.co.uk. For every Thomas Boyd scarf sold, we will donate £5 to Cruse Bereavement Care charity.

My VERY first request to the wedding planners were to have the @redhotchillipipers THEY WERE OUTSTANDING, bringing the party to the dance floor and smiles and a feeling of pride to all those with even just a smidgen of Scottish in them. PAINTED PINECONES ✨🍽🌲⁣
Christmas came early for the final dinner party in my tiny jewellery box flat. Consider this the sequel to pastel pumpkins. I loved the craft element so much last month, these pinecones led to just as many hours of meditative painting!⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
💐BLOOMS💐⁣⁣⁣
The inspiration began with @matthewwilliamson’s collaboration for @bloomandwild. It’s one of my favourite projects I’ve worked on this year - a meeting of colourful minds and dynamic British brands. The Glittering Garden bouquet includes lush roses, golden fern and purple eucalyptus. I deconstructed the bouquet like last month, laying the foliage as a base across the table then arranging the roses in low jars 🌹⁣⁣⁣

⭐️TABLE⭐️⁣
The Queen of Tablescapes @fionaleahydesign advised me in Istanbul that bold florals like this are best on a plain, tonal tablecloth - when I showed her the campaign image of the bouquet shot against a blue wall we both decided that colour was the one! In the Marrakech fabric souk last week I picked up 2 metres of beautiful teal jacquard for it 💙⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The glorious gold plates and chargers are from @anthropologieeu (*PR loan), because if you can’t at Christmas when can you? ⭐️⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
🎨PAINTS🎨⁣⁣⁣
Next, I layered on fresh clementines to echo the orange roses 🍊. Finally, the painted pinecones! I didn’t want to use aerosol spray paint (the fumes) but found this method - using water-based paint testers and 3cm brushes - worked the best:⁣⁣⁣
1. Wash the cones in soapy water and dry in a low temperature oven (wet pinecones close up).⁣⁣⁣
2. One layer of white primer.⁣⁣⁣
3. Two layers of colour.⁣⁣⁣
4. A light flourish of antique gold acrylic for the tips (paint from bottom to top).⁣⁣⁣
5. Glitter (biodegradable) on a few tips too! ⁣⁣⁣
