The NCAA Transfer Portal saw a little extra action after Pitt Head Coach Chase Kreitler stepped down with the men and women each having 7 new entries after the window had closed. But we are finally caught up and have a bunch of new data to share.

The Ups/Downs from prelims to finals are always an important metric, so we took a look at the +/- action through the portal:

• Marshall women took a big hit even after reinstating their program.

• Similarly, the Cal Baptist men have had a handful sign elsewhere after their program was dropped.

• Washington State women lost 4 swimmers in the portal but added 5, making them one of the biggest movers in both directions.

• One year into his tenure as the diving coach at Michigan, Brandon Loschiavo is rebuilding through the portal, adding 3 women and 1 man to the roster. That is all of the adds UM has so far.

There is a significant difference in how the women and men are moving between divisions:

• There was very little inter-division movement on the women's side, 9 of 102 for < 9%.

• Nearly 25% of the men transferring moved divisions with 22 of the 89 signings so far.

While we love sharing our insights here on IG, sometimes it's just too much to condense. So... we've posted a variety of spreadsheets for viewing on our website SpringboardIndiana.com/data where you can breakdowns of every D-I school active in the portal as well as a breakdown of every conference across all three divisions. You will also find all of the totals for each division and gender.

Let us know your thoughts and what else you might like to see in the comments.

Well, we all knew that the transfer portal this year would look nothing like last year. So, here is your first glimpse at how things are shaking out, starting with the women. (We will update with Men's next Monday.)

Last year roster cuts created havoc for the portal. This year it is much more tame. That being said, we are showing about 15% of portal entrants are Designated Student Athletes still looking for a new home. We only have a handful of signings from the spring entrants so far, so we will keep our eyes on that. Remember, there is a difference between a commitment and a signing and the NCAA does not report commitments to the portal.

The biggest player on the women's side this year is Marshall, which has 20 athletes who all entered when it was announced that their program would be cut after the season. Since then, the school has backtracked and reinstated the program. 4 of those 20 have already signed elsewhere, meaning the fallout from the fiasco is far from over for the Herd.

As we close out June and the majority of portal action as concluded we wanted to take a look at some of the craziness in the portal as a result of all the NCAA changes.

It is absolutely wild to think that essentially 1 of every 6-7 Division-I athletes entered the portal this year. Every single one of those athletes faced a different set of circumstances that led to that decision: NIL, playing time, roster limits, coaching change, program cuts, revenue sharing, development goals, etc.

Personally, as a former college coach, I'm not in love with the portal and how it has led to so much of the "the grass is greener" mentality. I think it does a disservice in the long run to so many young people. Not to mention the number of athletes that are losing their opportunities altogether. It creates an even greater divide between the haves and have nots. And it absolutely destroys the ability of good coaches to develop talent and compete, as they often lose their top athletes along the way. This affects their ability to build a program, earn financial incentives, or create more job security.

June 15th is Cal Poly Swim & Dive’s fundraising deadline. With the recent retirement of Athletic Director Don Oberhelman, the next three days are critical. Pledge your support at the link in our bio.

Big News… 🗞️ The House Settlement was granted final APPROVAL by Judge Wilken

This means that schools will begin to “share” revenue with Student-Athletes starting July 1st, 2025. #ncaarevenuesharing

D1 Schools who “opted-in” will now be bound by roster limits and scholarship limits - 9 for both Men’s & Women’s Golf (exception - SEC roster cap of 8)

The NCAA, in partnership with Deloitte, is launching “NIL Go” as the new clearinghouse for NIL payments.

With the exception of the “designated” student-athletes, Spring sports must be at or below roster limits by Dec 1st (not their first day of competition)

So what does this mean?!? … golf programs will be required to “use good-faith efforts” to identify any athlete who was on a 2024-2025 roster or is an incoming 2025 recruit but was “removed or would have been removed from the roster” due to roster limits. These are the “Designated Student-Athletes.”

If you were cut or are on the bubble, I suggest you confirm with your coach asap that you will be on the school’s DSA list. Note, DSAs can still be cut, but they WILL NOT COUNT AGAINST THE ROSTER LIMIT OF 9!

I foresee disputes over DSA status, rosters over 9 players with DSA’s, and many DSA’s eventually being “shown the door” & cut from their respective programs.

Let us know if FCG can help you or if you have any questions about your current recruiting situation as a junior golf recruit or a transfer.

With the men's portal officially closed we are taking a look the entries, moves, and more. Now that we have some insights on the roster limit debacle it will be interesting to see if there are more withdrawls in the coming weeks. That being said, here are some of the highlights to know:

• 78 different schools (more than half of D-I programs) with at least one entry into the portal
• 66% are from power conferences
• 19% are international athletes
• 48 athletes listed as signed. (Remember, there is a difference between a commitment and a signing and the NCAA does not report commitments to the portal)
• Highest total number of entries (pg 6)
• About 1/3 the number of grad transfers as last year due to lack of Covid 5th year of eligibility (pg 7)
• D-II has 136 total entries (pg 8) with a whopping 54% being international
• D-III has 23 total entries (pg 9)

With the women's portal officially closed we are taking a look the entries, moves, and more. I think the lack of definitive answer on roster limits may have also affected some numbers. That being said, here are some of the highlights to know:

• 113 different schools (more than half of D-I programs) with at least one entry into the portal
• 250 are receiving some form of athletic aid
• 22% are international athletes
• 58 athletes listed as signed (Remember, there is a difference between a commitment and a signing and the NCAA does not report commitments to the portal)
• Highest total number of entries (pg 7)
• About 1/3 the number of grad transfers as last year due to lack of Covid 5th year of eligibility (pg 8)
• D-II has 102 total entries (pg 9)
• D-III has 23 total entries (pg 10)

Swipe ➡ to see the numbers for EVERY program that currently has at least one athlete in the portal.
