Happy opening to @roughpuppets House of the Exquisite Corpse VI !!
I've spent the past month tracing, painting, sewing, stapling, paper mache-ing, gluing, and sculpting scenic and installation art pieces for the show, as the fabrication assistant on the project.
I've been wanting to get involved with this process for three years now, so having the opportunity to be in the room and collaborate with so many incredible artists has been an absolute dream!
Be sure to catch this immersive spectacle before it closes on November 1st!
And apologies to my roommates for the month of aerosol fumes in the apartment 🙏 Andres taking a mirror selfie in front of a large paper mache framed mirror they designed in the shape of a T-rex's mouth

One of the many elements we’re most excited about in THE SNOW QUEEN is the puppets. We’ve been in puppet meetings since the middle of summer, and now, with our band of storytellers in place, we’ve begun introducing our fabricated friends to their animators.

Our puppet director, @kimzyn, joined us for rehearsal with a bag full of puppets of all shapes and sizes to lead us through a workshop. We can’t wait for you to see the magic that puppet and props designers @jessie_d_uniques and @jriffic23 have been crafting this November.

Winter is coming… ❄️ Tickets to the Far North go on sale THIS WEEK. Check back here to secure your seat and meet our furry and feathery friends.

#SOUNDBOARDSATURDAY

Tune in today at 2p for a very special interview with a true multi hyphenate Renaissance artist, @sam_u_el_le_w_is!

Soundboard Saturday, from 2-3p
Hosted by @samthousand

Lumpen Radio - 105.5 FM
www.lumpenradio.com

Samuel J. Lewis II has been on an extensive journey researching generations of his family roots and is now in the early stages of developing his first full length puppetry show, which will tell stories from his discoveries through multiple forms of performance art.

Sam’s service within Chicago’s performing arts scene has remarkable depth and range. This interview explores how building a well rounded practice of service through performance, curation, mentorship, and arts administration can deepen an artist’s understanding of their community, broaden their perspective, and ultimately allow them to return to their own craft more informed, connected, and intentional.

Special Skill: Bowling 🎳!

Ya girl saw bowling and @roughpuppets on the fundraiser flier and had to be there. VIP ticket baby!

I’ve talked about my time as a youth bowler to a few folks. RIP King Bowl one of the few long gone black owned bowling alleys on the Southside. The bowling alley is where I had my first crush, got my first period during a bowling event and the place outside of school where I felt less like a weird awkward black girl. I had community. I fit in. My difference was embraced.

To my honest surprise — I haven’t been bowling in YEARS — walked out of the event with medals, pizza, free beers, a recruit for two opposing bowling teams(?) and a hole in the back of my skirt. See the fundraiser highlights for the full story. 😂

Maybe I’ll be in an adult league for 2027 and/or be in a bowling movie. That would be dope!

Anyways I hope the fundraiser was a success for all involved.
