Summer research took Jimmy Flocco and Ava Santiago in very different directions.

Jimmy, a geographical information science and philosophy major, studied how food access can help strengthen communities. Ava, a political science and psychology major, examined the experiences of prison personnel involved in capital punishment.

We’re proud to see both students featured in Rowan Today’s look at this year’s Martinson Summer Scholars!

Read more through the link in our bio. Jimmy Flocco presents his research on food access and food security to an attendee during the Martinson Summer Scholars poster session.

This post focused on pictures that I took throughout the week to highlight experiential learning, along with captions to give an insight into each image!

Make sure to go give it a read on Rowan Blog: https://rowanblog.com/2026/07/biological_sciences_experiential_learning_future_veterinary_student/

I am honored to be Rowan’s University’s College of Science and Mathematics featured graduate! This distinction is given to one student within the college, and I have been lucky enough to represent CSM.

You can find the story on Rowan’s Commencement website, along with Rowan Today, and Rowan’s webpage. Go have a read: https://today.rowan.edu/news/2026/05/3-plus-4-pre-veterinary-senior-has-big-ambitions.html
