Yesterday, we officially reopened the Keith & Shirley Campbell Library on campus! 🎉📚

As President Houshmand shared, “the library is more than a place to check out books...it has evolved into a student success hub, a collaboration space, and an academic support ecosystem.”

New year. New faces. New memories loading…

Savitz Open House brought students together for food, activities, campus resources and plenty of Welcome Week fun!

University College kept the cotton candy spinning, polaroids snapping and an interactive banner coming to life as students answered questions inspired by our Student Success Summit theme, Find Your Flow.

Research is only one part of the SURP experience.

Last week, SURP students explored the power of immersive learning during a visit to Rowan's Dreamscape Learn Center, experiencing firsthand how virtual reality is transforming education. Special thanks to George Lecake, Ph.D., for introducing students to immersive learning through this interactive experience.

Throughout the summer, students build professional skills through workshops, networking opportunities and career development experiences alongside their research projects.

This week, SURP continues with a Graduate School Workshop led by Jim Grinias, Ph.D. Student wearing a virtual reality headset points toward an interactive virtual environment while participating in an immersive learning activity at Rowan University's Dreamscape Learn Center.

You're invited to a special screening of the documentary, ‘The Librarians,’ on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 5 p.m. in the Chamberlain Student Center, Room 221.

At a moment when book bans and censorship efforts are accelerating across the country, ‘The Librarians’ brings into focus the individuals working on the frontlines to protect intellectual freedom, educational access, and the First Amendment. The film examines how challenges to books—particularly those addressing race, identity, and LGBTQIA+ experiences—have become part of a broader struggle over who controls information and whose stories are allowed to be told.

As CED's Dean Jean-Marie reminds us, “The topic of censorship and book banning is not only nationally relevant but deeply connected to our shared commitments to educational access, equity, and intellectual freedom.”

Following the screening, we will host a discussion to reflect on the film and explore the role libraries, schools, and universities play in sustaining a healthy democracy and an informed public.

The event is hosted by Campbell Library (@rowanlibraries) and the College of Education’s Diversity in Action (DIA) Committee. All members of the Rowan community are encouraged to attend.

We hope you will join us for this important conversation.
