Now lay me down to bed I pray the lord for pow to slay, and if it's waist deep when I wake, epic lines I vow to take.🏂 @lmfabrication

The Legends of Alaska retro half pipe & Hall of Fame event made it back this season.
@arcticvalley was the first area in Alaska to welcome snowboarding and the site of the first half pipe in Alaska in 1989. For the event we recreate a hand dug retro pipe, bring out a bunch of vintage boards, and let the shredding magic happen. We started this event to honor the legacy of Alaska snowboarding and the pioneers that build the community we thrive in now. We also set out to honor those that carried Alaska on their backs as they pushed snowboarding.
This year’s inductees were Juan Gomez & @roseyfletcher
For those that don’t know:
Juan started the first skate/snow shop in Alaska in the form you’re used to seeing. Started in his room then taking up residence in Spenard. Juan sponsored skaters, held contests, brought up pros, competed outside Alaska, and was know to have the best method of those early years in Alaska snowboarding. Juan also started the first indoor skatepark in Alaska.
Rosey started as a ski racer but soon saw the light and began to crush the snowboard scene in the early 90’s. From local races to world cups, to Olympic podiums, Rosey ruled them all. Rosey came along at a time when women were often overlooked and became undeniable. She blazed a trail inspiring women and Alaskans, letting them know they could start in a small town and end up on the world stage.

Thank you to Arctic Valley, the community that came out to dig the pipe, all the shredders that showed up to ride, and all the founders that built this amazing scene.

See you next year 🤙🏻

Thank you to dc.winters & @ginger.sin.alma for taking photos and sharing them with us.
