Finally feel like real progress on Serenity by @teresakogut on very, very old 22ct fabric with mainly called for DMC with Creme Brulee (deer), Arugula(grass) & Hourglass (roses) from @roxy.flossco. Were I to ever do it again, I would swap out more of the threads.

The Songbird by Modern Folk Embroidery @modernfolkembroidery being stitched on 36ct Vintage Country Mocha using Roxy Floss Co. thread 🧵 I’m using the color Charcoal. My brother said it looks like a really dark green when the light reflects on it, in a certain way. @roxy.flossco

Sometimes I have walked away and left things unfinished and when I return I truly have to wonder, Why? What was it that kept me from pushing through those final few steps and finishing this?

Eliza Morritt’s sampler was marked in 1847 as completed in Quebec North. She stitched in woollen thread and marked it with her name, location and the date in silk. Geographical delineation and names in this period look and sound different from what we understand today. Canada West, Canada East, Upper Canada, Lower Canada, Ontario, Quebec. Distinct cultures, languages, laws, geography, but a common practice of stitching samplers in girlhood. Yes, there have always been differences, but we hold and treasure so many things in common.

With just a few words, again stitched in silk, I will have three Québec samplers almost ready for release. I am so excited to finally be releasing work from home, from places across the land of my birth, my home, Canada.

As L.M. Montgomery wrote:

“I went looking for my dreams outside of myself and discovered, it’s not what the world holds for you, it’s what you bring to it.”

I don’t know the answer to why it has taken me so long to get here. The journey is just that, a journey. One step at a time, one foot in front of the other. Detours and doubling back, starting over, all part of my journey.

No matter the reason, I am now set to bring these pieces to completion and intend to play with my silk threads by @auverasoie_officiel and stitch everything that is left over one, now that all my work with @roxy.flossco is complete. As ever, I am in conversation with my antique samplers, so I chose the vibrant beauty of Kerri’s cotton overdyed threads instead of anything made of wool. But like Eliza I had to use some silk too.

Finished Moonshine Cabin by @modernfolkembroidery . It was stitched using called for @roxy.flossco on 32 ct Shadow by Picture This Plus 2strands over 2 linen threads. This was the hardest fabric I’ve ever stitched on! The entire piece was stitched under my lighted magnifier. Now that it’s done, I love it! #canadiancrossstitchersofinstagram #canadiancrossstitcher #crossstitch #crossstitchersofinstagram #modernfolkembroidery
