This might sound funny but I read a quote from Rick Rubin that said “ Channeling Negative Emotions into a beautiful work of Art is truly therapeutic” Which is exactly how I would summarize I think everything I’ve ever attempted to create... Yet after finishing this image with my partners it wasn’t just about the obvious but more about change we want to see. We have 4 days left and I hope we’re all pushing for the change we need. #getyourassoutandvote

2020 has been a hell of a year, I have to say it feels like I turned 21 or 18 again, or like I’m waking up from a long nap. All that said to just say that when I woke up I felt so much come to the surface for me, I had to come to terms with the racism I’ve grown up with, the racism I accepted as ok treatment from others growing up being a Latino kid in LA, to even now working in Fashion. The idea of accepting that “this is just how it is” and the hardest truth for me was to understand that being the son of two immigrants who came to this country to wash themselves of their culture so they could be accepted and then teach me that assimilation was success, because they knew the truth of this country which is America only wants you when you’re “American”.

Finally after, the next thing that hit my heart was Pride for who I am and the history my melanin carries. Which is why it’s been so important to no longer be silent, to no longer just let things go back to normal, to keep speaking up. LASTLY TO VOTE so we can make the changes our ancestors would be so proud to see. After everything had happen I needed to just put my feelings into a visual & this is what came out. My brothers helped me put this together, & I didn’t really think about it till today but creatively it’s like our family photo lol. @pompeeraw & I photographed this & the incredibly epic flag was made @as_seen_by_jp & his kids. @roy.jahmil was one of the first people I thought about asking to sit for a portrait and he brought his crew. I’m proud of this visual and the others we’ll be releasing. To me this marks a turning point personally, so thank you for allowing me to share
