This is how I get the feet and the rims of the mugs nice and...relatively level. Reduces the wobble when stacking and sitting on a surface. 😏

I wish I could remember where the heck I saw this trick...anyhow, it can only be done on greenware, before it's ever even seen the kiln. At this stage, the mugs are essentially dried mud and are very fragile. Adding water turns the uneven surface back into wet clay. 🤯

Gotta make it nice for my next market, the upcoming @commongroundcountryfair in September!

Today, I’m sharing something personal.

Today is Canada Day.

Today also marks one year since we lost my cousins, Olivia and Brendan, who were killed by an impaired driver while on a road trip to Churchill, Manitoba.

Olivia was a writer, singer, dancer, beader, artist, passionate lover of music, and keeper of Ukrainian folk traditions. Brendan was the beloved bassist with Royal Canoe and a collaborator on countless musical projects over the years. They were both deeply woven into Winnipeg’s arts and music community, and their absence is still felt every day.

Before launching Cornflower Consulting, I spent years supporting Canadian creative businesses in the UK. Looking back, I’ve come to realize how many of the relationships that have shaped both my career and this business exist because Olivia connected people. I can’t count the number of music events where someone introduced themselves by saying, “I know your cousin! Olivia told me to come and say hello.” She had an extraordinary gift for building community, and Brendan shared that same generosity through his music and friendships.

In the hours after the accident, Olivia received 14 units of donated blood, allowing her family to be with her and say goodbye. That experience inspired the blood donation campaign launched by Brendan’s bandmates in Royal Canoe.

Happy World Bicycle Day! 🚲

For us, there’s no better way to celebrate than riding to school together.

What started as a way to get to school has become so much more. Kids look forward to it all week, parents get to know their neighbours, and the ride itself becomes part of the fun.

Here’s to turning school commutes into memories and neighbours into friends.

Imagine yourself... on a road trip... with the late, great filmmaker and musician Jaimz Asmundson, and acclaimed musician Matt Peters of the indie pop band Royal Canoe.

Together they take the scenic route to Matt’s very strange hometown of Steinbach, Manitoba in order to learn about Matt’s life and music and the answer the age-old Steinbach question : is it worth the trip?

Matt scores the experience playing Roland boutique synthesizers - the JU-06 and TR-08, which are hooked up to the car stereo as they cruise along.

Introducing DASH JAM : A new web series directed, produced and featuring the late, great filmmaker and musician Jaimz Asmundson, his beloved Honda Civic, a fleet of acclaimed local artists, and a dynamic duo of Roland synthesizers.

This is one of many amazing projects that Jaimz had on the docket before his untimely death in 2024. Many talented folks came together to bring it to completion, and the hour is finally at hand.

There will be a special public screening of Dash Jam at @wfgcinematheque on Friday, June 12, split into a 6pm and a 9pm screening, which together will include all 13 episodes. Please join us!

The online debut with take place starting on Wednesday May 27 on YouTube with the release of the first episode, featuring Matt Peters of Royal Canoe. From there, the plan is to release one episode per week . The online home of Dash Jam will be Jaimz Asmundson’s YouTube account (as it should be)

From folk and indie rock to jazz, electronic, and punk, Manitoba’s scene is packed with creativity and that unmistakable prairie spark. I also shared a glimpse into the province’s strong music community, the artists shaping its sound, and a few tracks that really stood out this week.
