TIPS FOR MAKEUP APPLICATION FOR PHOTOSHOOTS

1. It’s all about skin. Balancing the skin before any makeup application is 🔑 For photoshoots it’s even more vital to pay attention to shine & oil control, chapped lips and any dry patches that may be on the skin. This will affect how the makeup translates on camera.

2. Stick with the story/theme. Be sure to get in contact with the photographer or browse their page to get a feel for their style. Do they like bold colors, graphic liner, clean skin or full glam? What’s the color story, what outfit is the client wearing, how will their hair be styled, are they having look changes?

3. Study lighting and varying editing styles. This will help you gauge when to go bold or keep it cute and simple. Ie. If you apply a very vibrant blush for an indoor shoot where the photographer will be using lots of studio light, that would be fine because studio light tend to wash out and blur the skin on camera. Or if your client is doing an outdoor shoot at midday when the sun is beaming and also cast harsh shadows on the face, applying heavy contour may not be the best choice.

All in all, the important factor is being intentional and mindful about your application. Think beyond the application so you can be satisfied when the prints are released.
