My teenage years were spent drawing and painting until 10pm every night to get into the best art university in Korea. I loved it. Then all the wonderful things happened after I started @rejinapyo. I missed painting so much. The Artist’s Way made me realize that my dream of becoming a granny artist didn’t need to wait. It’s been six years since getting over that first fear of making art again - doubting, learning, agonising, and growing. I had huge hesitation about showing this painting until the last moment, but thank you, @eileen_cooper_ra , for encouraging me to enter @royalacademyarts , and thank you to Paul Hollingsworth and the judges for seeing what I was trying to say with this painting. Never too late, never stop. I hope this little boy reminds all of us of our bittersweet childhoods, which have shaped who we are today and are still in a deep corner of our hearts, waiting for us to pay attention and be held.

A very memorable evening hosting the Chair’s Dinner at the Royal Academy of Art. There are few greater privileges than gathering friends and supporters in this building, in service of an institution that has championed artists for over 250 years. The conversations of an evening like this remind me why the work of supporting the RA matters so deeply. My sincere thanks to everyone who joined me, and to those who help safeguard all that lies ahead. 🎨

Late to post this after being ill this week but what a week it was! @royalacademyarts

A very special start to it at The Annual Dinner for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the world’s largest open submission contemporary art show which has taken place every year without interruption since 1769.

There is something about the tradition, the medals, the egalitarian nature of the true academy which shines through so sublimely on this night annually. It was a true privilege to hear President Rebecca Salter and the ever - eloquent William Kentridge giving a powerful speech about the importance of creativity and a poignant revisiting of his journey to an 18 year persuading his lawyer father that art was the only way.

A very special evening seeing the room alit with some of my favourite RA’s and museum Directors uniting for the power of art. What a treat to be next to the indomitable Jane @janeandlouisewilson and @t_o_o_g_o_o_d designer of dreams. Huge bravo to new CEO Simon Wallis, President Rebecca Salter and Chair of Trustees Batia Ofer - all driving with tenacity and mission. brilliant to catch up with some of my favourite humans all who strive to build a better world.

This year’s coordinator Ryan Gander RA curated the exhibition under the theme of Interconnectedness with help from RA’s such as Eileen Cooper & Humphrey Ocean. Each room is filled with painting, sculpture, and sketches and all are for sale in a meritocratic journey.. it’s my favourite place to buy.

Special congrats to Louise Wilson on her new role as the brilliant Keeper and to Ron Arad on his well deserved CBE and welcome to new RA’s including Jeremy Deller and how heart warming to see Diane Armfield RA’s at 106 years old!

The journey starts crossing the iconic Annenberg Courtyard, which this year is lit up with THE SONG IN YOU, an Ugo Rondinone rainbow celebrating the art of our lives.

Funds raised support the exhibiting artists, the postgraduate students studying in the RA Schools and the work of the Royal Academy - which is not government funded and is the only free UK art school Creating world inspiring talent.

Huge congratulations to the most incredible team - takes an army!💫

This year’s RA Summer Exhibition opens on Tuesday. I feel very lucky to have been part of the exhibition hanging committee, curating rooms 1 and 2. Room 9 is also a collaboration between Eileen Cooper and me.

Headed up by Ryan Gander this year’s comittee includes Eileen Cooper, Michael Craig Martin, Oona Grimes, Peter St John, Humphrey Ocean, Goshka Makuga, myself and an AMAZING team of RA staff and art handlers!

Thank you to all of the artists who sent their work in and made this year’s show so special.
