•— Chicago, Illinois - Downtown Western Springs📍Date: 08/25/21 - Congratulations Mikkie!! This last year has been a great example of what’s to come in the near future for you as a professional! You worked hard to be one of the most consistent players in that XI and you were rewarded with the cup! Build on everything that you have gone through in the last few months and don’t let anything get in your way! Always think about the things we reviewed and the pathways that are at your disposal! You know that we’re just getting started! ——————————————————————————— #YouthScout #Scout #Wonderkid #GoldenGeneration #MichaelFlores #MF13 #Chicago #CFCA #ChicagoFire #MLS #Soccer #LetTheKidsPlay #SportingTalent #London

“The morning of my debut I ran in to Charlie George who lived on the same road as me off Highbury Fields. I’d always ask him for advice whenever I saw him in the area, anyway that morning he said “good luck son, I’ll be there watching. First of many, son, first of many.” That connection with Arsenal and the area he has, not many people have that and he knew that I had that same connection. So when I came on in that game against Rotherham, the mental build up to it was crazy for me and my family. My mum was like, “you do realize tomorrow you're on the bench for Arsenal? In the space of five years we've gone from moving to Highbury Fields and hearing the fans when we scored, to you now playing for them.” That set the tone for me, I was like ‘fuck, this is it.’ What a feeling that was. What a feeling, absolutely incredible. I don't know if you remember, but that game went to penalties. And I scored a penalty. Like, into the fucking North Bank! Just a different level. Different level” Extract from our interview with former Arsenal player and Islington boy Ryan Smith in Poison Lasagna Issue 2. Many may not have heard of him but his story is an interesting one. A story through which we can imagine what it would have been like if we’d played for the club we support and love. Ryan made his Arsenal debut aged 16 alongside Fabregas in October 2003 in a victory against Rotherham in the League Cup, scoring a penalty in the shootout. He, along with Cesc, was one of our most promising prospects of the era. A meteoric ascent through the ranks culminating in a devastating injury that finished his hopes of a lifelong career at Arsenal. He had only played 6 games in the League Cup by the time his Arsenal career was over. Thank you so much @rsmithldn ❤️ 📸 @edfenwick
