Designing for Diverse Populations: Fatma Baytar, assistant professor in the Department of Human Centered Design, uses digital technology like 3D body scanning to improve sizing and fit for apparel and other products.   Now she’s partnering with rsspcts LLC, a New York City company that aims to reduce inequality in swimming by designing products that protect diverse hair types. Baytar’s Fashion and Body Tech lab and rsspcts will work together to further the swim cap design concept and yield a functional and fashionable prototype through design research, engineering and 3D body scan data. Because, as rsspcts says, “Everybody deserves the chance to get their feet wet, and not their hair.”   The partnership is supported by the Cornell Center for Materials Research’s JumpStart Program for NY State Small Businesses.
