Being a member of Katsina State Youth Parliament is not a big deal.

The real deal is what you learn, how you grow, the capacity you build, and the impact you create.

The seat may be temporary, but the knowledge, character, and impact can last a lifetime.

For Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari, youth leadership is about more than having a seat at the table, it is about using that platform to advocate, influence policy and create opportunities for other young people to participate meaningfully in shaping Nigeria’s future.

As Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Aliyu has built on more than fourteen years of leadership and public service, beginning with student unionism and growing into a broader commitment to youth advocacy, inclusive governance and community development.

A financial economist and entrepreneur from Katsina State, his interests cut across some of the issues shaping the lives and futures of young Nigerians today, from education reform, youth employment and technological innovation to climate action, civic participation, transparency and accountability.

Beyond public service, Aliyu is also active in enterprise, bringing together his interests in leadership, economic development and creating opportunities for growth.

At the heart of his journey is a commitment to ensuring that young people are not only represented in conversations about Nigeria’s development, but are equipped and empowered to contribute to the decisions that shape it.
That commitment to youth participation, public service and building pathways for young people to lead is what makes Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari one of our #CoolYouthsInNigeria. ✨

Learning, Engaging, and Building Capacity. 🇳🇬

As a Youth Parliamentarian representing Batagarawa Local Government, Katsina State, I participated in a session on “The Role of NIS in National Security, Border Management and Responsible Citizenship.”

The session provided valuable insights into the importance of effective border management, national security, legal migration, and the responsibility of citizens in building a safer and stronger Nigeria.

Leadership begins with knowledge, responsibility and the courage to serve.

Katsina Youth Must Lead Now, Not Tomorrow — Deputy Governor Jobe

Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Faruq Lawal Jobe, has urged young people to reject the idea that they are “leaders of tomorrow,” stressing that leadership must begin now.

He made the call during the inauguration of the Katsina State Youth Parliament Leadership and Mentorship Training Programme in Katsina.

Jobe identified capacity, commitment and integrity as key qualities of effective leadership, urging youths to build their skills, work hard and learn to work with others.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Engr. Surajo Yazid Abukur, said the 10-day programme was designed to strengthen youth participation in governance and develop skills in democracy, legislation, communication, teamwork and leadership.

Coordinator Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari disclosed that 755 youths applied, with candidates selected through a merit-based screening process.

Participants from Malumfashi and Bakori expressed optimism that the programme would equip them with the knowledge needed to represent their communities effectively.

The programme brings together selected youths from across Katsina State for intensive leadership, legislative and mentorship training.
