to my friends, strangers, and everyone in between,

i think it’s safe to say it’s been… quite a year. one with change, challenges, opportunities, gains, losses, reflection—possibly all of the above—yet here we are. i hope that this new year brings you clarity, happiness, good luck, success, and all the good things people wish onto others. cheers to a new beginning and a new year; let’s all do our best and continue to be there for one another!

with love,
gen <3

C#5 was an impromptu project made in the fall of 2024. Shot in my old apartment in a single day on a budget of about $150, this film was my first foray into writing and directing a more-or-less "traditional" production since graduating from DePaul, with a little step up in production value/scale compared to some of the smaller, more improv-oriented projects which preceded it. It expands on some themes from my earlier short films — namely the struggle of artists to sustain themselves and find their place as outsiders within larger communities — through a new genre lens.

The film presented a super exciting chance to work with non-actors again, plus a lot of new collaborators in general, and taught me a lot about managing a traditional short film project as a producer/director with a tight timeline and even tighter budget.

C#5 is probably not the best short film you’ll ever see, but it’s been a meaningful experience nonetheless to continue exploring familiar ideas and see the story come together through the scrappy pooling of various resources. This project wouldn’t have happened had I waited for someone to give me permission or more money. We saw the framework and found the creative angles to work within it. Corny as it may seem, sometimes it’s simply a matter of doing.

C#5 OUT FRIDAY @ 12PM CT. ON YOUTUBE. SUBSCRIBE NOW AT LINK IN BIO.
