Today we celebrated the incredible life of our Grandma Melba King. 101 years!

I am grateful beyond words to have known her and to have been loved by her. She exemplified the Savior more than anyone I have ever known. Her home, her heart, and her arms were always open. Everyone who crossed her path felt welcomed, valued, and deeply loved.

What a blessing it has been to be part of her family and to carry her example forward.

Twenty-six years ago today, my dad left our wedding location to our wedding luncheon and accidentally took Angie’s car keys with him, leaving Angie and I stranded at the temple where we were freshly married. Without cell phones we were left to sit on the temple grounds, on the sprawling green grass, post obligatory photos (attached: check out my thairible hair, “the buttcutt”), on a beautiful day in May….squinting into the sun, enjoying the moments, as one of the worlds newest married couples. We were also basically children. My wife often jokes that she was a child bride, which was 8 months away from being true. We were old enough to think we knew what we were getting into but young and egotistical enough to think we had it covered. Friends and family waited for us at the luncheon, all conjuring stories about what “we were up to” as they waited for nearly 2 hours while my dad arrived at the luncheon, realized what he had done, and hurriedly drove back to us still at the Timpanogos temple where keys were delivered. The end to that particular moment was bittersweet for me; Angie and I had been talking, laughing, planning/scheming, singing, and creating fun out of thin air… and thanks to her we’ve been doing the same ever since. “Angelove” (as I call her) is a dynamo… she’s intellectually and creatively brilliant, musically and vocally über-gifted, gut-chortling hilarious, a terrifying problem-solver, intuitively sensitive to the worlds spiritual needs, and she will give anything and everything to help others… with zero forethought of her own needs, sometimes much to my chagrin. Simply put, she is my everything. Life deals us our fair share of challenges and I’m usually the turd in the punch bowl, but without Angelove I would be more of a disASSter than I already am. We don’t know what the future holds but I’m grateful that when it comes down to it, in my minds eye we are still two young naiive kids, figuratively sitting on that temple lawn, stranded, but enjoying every moment of one another’s presence and ready to take on the world. I love you forever Angelove. Happy “ANGIEversary!” The life we have created is my everything. HUGS.
