🌀 A couple weekends ago, artist Ruby Neri welcomed us into her studio to see the process behind her monumental work. Thank you @rubyroseneri for the behind-the-scenes look, and to everyone who joined us! Our field trips push our programming beyond the studio walls, and we’re grateful to our students, supporters, and friends for making them possible!

We have another field trip coming up this Saturday to @craftcontemporary for a workshop with @_wormschool_ and a tour of the Clay Biennial! Details and registration at the link in bio ✨

5𝘵𝘩 𝘎𝘦𝘯 serves as a monument to the homes Nadeau’s father and ancestors built for their families. Based on floor plans of houses her father constructed, including the artist’s childhood home, the ceramic work reflects on the human impulse to build shelter and the nostalgia surrounding the family home as a symbol of a bygone era.

In 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘝𝘐, Mouser explores the push and pull between destruction and creation. Punching and tearing through paper creates a textural portrait with forms that suggest igneous rock formations, aerial landscapes, or maps of the stars. As light and perspective shift, the reflective back layer creates an evolving experience of the work.

In 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘥, Neri brings her interest in functional objects and everyday life into a ceramic plate made for daily use. The work reflects her ongoing exploration of the relationship between art and the objects that surround us.

Hand-carved from limestone and granite at the Blunk House, 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 draws on archetypal forms found throughout J.B. Blunk’s work, including circles, voids, and the dialogue between carved surfaces and the stone’s natural edge. The sculptural tray is food safe and sealed.

Fifth Gen_12, 2019
ceramic, 10” x 14”

Fifth Gen, serves as a monument to the past, honoring the homes her father and ancestors built for their families. Rooted in ceramic, the series features floor plans of houses her father constructed, including the artist’s own childhood home, evoking a sense of romantic nostalgia for the innate human impulse to build shelter. By revisiting these structures, Nadeau draws on traditional craft while reflecting on how the act of building a family home has become a myth, an echo of a bygone era. She reimagines houses as sculptures, installations, and vessels rich with symbolism and poetics.
