Space makes sound beautiful.
We spoke with Tokyo-based FK ( @fkz0728 ) about his musical roots and the local scene around him.
As his musical roots, he points to Pete Rock and DJ Premier.
Their sense of sampling and uncompromising approach to beat-making have had a profound influence on him.
Currently on his radar are Gondwana Records and ECM Records.
He is drawn to Gondwana’s commitment to pushing jazz into new territory, and to ECM’s enduring philosophy of pursuing “the most beautiful sound next to silence.”
And then there is Tokyo’s music scene.
Bar Music, PHYSICAL STORE, and Gekko Saboh.
As more music bars devoted to high-quality sound continue to emerge, there are increasing opportunities to slow down and truly listen.
The deeper you read, the more clearly his approach to music and the thinking behind his selections begin to emerge.
“What are your musical roots?”
“Which artists are you most excited about right now?”
“What is happening in your local music scene?”
In nuuma’s interview series, we explore not only the work of DJs and artists, but also the music they listen to, the places they spend time in, and the people who inspire them.
Swipe through and discover the answers that stay with you.
