The one who truly loves you will set you free.

The one who adores you will let you go. Not because they love you less, but because they understand that love was never meant to be a cage.

Real love does not tighten its grip when it is afraid of losing you. It does not demand that you become smaller so someone else can feel secure. It does not place chains around your wings and call them protection.

The one who truly loves you will open the door. And when you hesitate at the edge of the cage, they will not pull you back. They will simply stand beneath the darkness and remind you that you were born with wings.

There is something sacred about being loved without being possessed. Like a bird released into a midnight sky, you may have to leave behind the familiar bars, the comfortable darkness, and everything that once convinced you that captivity was safety. Fly anyway. The night may be vast. The wind may be cold. You may not know where your wings will carry you. But somewhere beyond the darkness, there is a light.

A distant beacon cutting through the fog, quietly reminding you that freedom is not the absence of fear, it is choosing to move forward despite it. Sometimes God allows certain doors to open because He knows the cage has become too small for the soul you are becoming.

So let go. Let the chains fall. Let the past remain behind you. Let the wings that have been folded for too long remember what they were made to do. And if someone truly loves you, they won't ask you to stay trapped just to prove that you love them. They will open the cage. They will bless your flight. And they will trust that what is meant to remain in your life does not need a cage to keep it there.

Become the beacon. Follow the light. And when the darkness calls you back to the cage, remember, you were never created to live there.

The mevlavi #Sema is arranged in seven major parts:

🎙️ Naat-ı Şerîf, the Sacred Eulogy
🥁 Kudüm, recalling Kun, “Be”
🎋 Ney Taksimi, the reed flute and the breath of life
🚶 Devr-i Veledî, the three ceremonial circuits
🌀 The Four Selams, Awakening, Wonder, Divine Love, Return and Service
📖 Kur’an Tilaveti, Qur’anic recitation
🤲 Dua, the closing prayer

The infographic also explains the symbolism of the Semazen, Postnişin, Semazenbaşı, Mutrib, Sikke, Hırka, Tennure, Dhikr, Çile, the Hatt-ı İstivâ, the right and left hand positions, the circular movement around the heart, and the relationship between Sema, Tawaf, remembrance, love, and service.

One of the Qur’anic passages associated with the imagery of the ceremony is Qur’an 2:115:

📖 “To God belong the East and the West. Wherever you turn, there is the Face of God.”

For me, studying Rumi means studying more than isolated quotations. It means recovering the vocabulary, ritual forms, music, symbols, movements, institutions, and intellectual world surrounding Rumi and the Mevlevi tradition.

A few years back when @lightseekingbeing was making the journey home to his parents and St. Augustine, he blessed me with the Medicine Wheel from his Living Light Gallery. 🙏🏾
