@nelsonmandelamarathon race expo was a truly South African vibe! And a beautiful tribute to Nelson Mandela, the man that changed South Africa for the better.

Cannot wait to hit the streets on Sunday for the inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon. Excited to run alongside @fitnessgirl_za for her first stand alone marathon as we aim for a sub 4hr 30min - if you see us in route, we wanna hear you cheer

Our first taste of the Mount to Coast South Africa community - and a pretty good one.

A morning at RUN Store Newlands, putting the C1 and H1 to the test and getting some kilometres in together.

Nothing beats a morning 5K through beautiful Newlands with @johanjonck4 and the crew from @run_storeza trying out the new C1 from @mtc.op.za! 🏃‍♂️🔥

We then topped off the morning with a well-deserved post-run coffee (mandatory 😉), followed by some extra treadmill runs in the H1. Big fan of the C1's stability and the H1's comfort — seriously impressive shoes ☕👟

That may have been the hardest marathon I’ve run to date, the wind was insane, I had diabetic complications, my hamstring gave me issues, all the stories.

But the beauty is in the struggle, my friend @cape__diem stayed with me and encouraged me the entire way, I faced parts of myself I’d not met before, I pushed through the discomfort, the tears, my ego and made peace with myself out there.

Yes it was a rough day, yes I blew but I crossed that finish line side-by-side with Paige, my dear friends @jana_vdm and @fitnessgirl_za were waiting to support me.

A tough race can humble us but also teaches us so much about ourselves and gives us so much to be grateful for! I finished feeling so seen, so supported and so loved, thank you 🫶

A good running shop knows the city better than the guidebook does.

It knows where people run, what the hill is called, which morning the path gets busy and where the coffee is afterwards. Ask the person behind the counter and you get a better route than any app will give you.

The one that stops us is DISTANCE in Iten, a Paris running shop that opened a branch at 2,400m in the Kenyan town that produces most of the world’s marathon champions. Seven kilometres of red dirt away is Kamariny Stadium, where hundreds of Kenyans turn up to do track on a Tuesday.

The rest run from basements to bridges. Run boys! Run girls! sits underground in Tokyo, a few minutes from the Imperial Palace loop. Sentier in Chamonix opened with a family business that has been trading in the valley since 1897. REIGN sits on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge, so the warm up is a mile of walkway 212 feet above the Hudson. RUN on Bree Street in Cape Town is split down the middle, road on one side, trail on the other.

Nine shops, nine cities, and a run already planned from each front door.

Save this for the next trip you are packing trainers for, and send it to whoever you would actually get up early with.
