I finally got this on film. Ralphie running full sprint towards a chipmunk called off the chipmunk with a verbal leave it cue.
This has happened a few times, but I wasn’t filming. A great example of impulse control, disengaging from prey off leash, trained force free, no shock, no choke, no blame just simple Applied behavior analysis and kind consistent conditioning.

Scents are a powerful reinforcer. In this video, we see Ralphie ignore the loud traffic to gather scent.

When there is no scent, he checks in for a food reward. He has been conditioned to check in off of loud traffic for food rewards. Scents are a naturally occurring reinforcer.

Let your dogs gather scent. It keeps them calm and provides natural reinforcement to the environment around them.

Ralphie has phenomenal impulse control when it comes to prey. We’ve done lots of work over the years. At the age of 10 he is an impulse control champ. You’ll notice in this video We stalked the rabbit until he is queued to chase.

For those of you worried about the rabbit, please don’t, the rabbit always gets away. Also, a large lawnmower started up right as we were deciding to run so the rabbit was going to run anyway.

One of Guanacaste's most iconic birds.

The Turquoise-browed Motmot is easy to recognize by its vibrant colors and distinctive racket-shaped tail, and is one of the species most frequently encountered during our bird walks around Olas Verdes.

Dog play is fun! However, it’s crucial to teach disengagement cues, watch for signs of stress and referee and shape the play. Know your players, know your environment and keep your head in the game to ensure play goes well!
