First double digit run since I broke my toe a few months back. Slow and steady, but got through it. Training for @runmalibu half marathon Nov 8th. Great way to end the week, all before 8AM this Sunday.

Running in the UCI Anti-Cancer 5k on Saturday, October 10th had quite a few high points for me, 1st & foremost being that my mom, Lorraine Lehman, led and walked w/ our fundraiser team after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer in January 2024.

I feel like understatements are all I can bring to how grateful I am to see her resilience and good health carry through to now, as well as the appreciation I have for the wonderful people and care that have equipped her to keep pushing and thriving to today.

The day was exceptional for many more reasons, including getting to connect and share with other people who are wrestling with or for loved ones with cancer, which is always helpful and appreciated.

The race itself was extraordinary, too, I’m very proud to have taken 3rd overall in the race, the course was gorgeous and challenging as it threaded through and around the UCI campus, and getting on any podium is big for me.

Interestingly, about halfway into the race I looked down and found my watch wasn’t on.

Without a chip in the bib and only a visual on the clock at the finish line, I’m calling my performance an 18:07, which I’m hyped on and marks itself as a strong point for where my fitness is at the moment.

Not having a digital record of any workout I do, much less a race, is definitely exceptional for me.

But having this be the case feels right as an exercise to step outside my usual practice, be comfortable with having no record, and celebrate where my competitive abilities are at now, which I’ll be growing from here into the Run Malibu half marathon on 11/8, Catalina half marathon on 11/14, and Corpus Christi full marathon on 12/27.

My resistance to down time has continued, and since the race I’ve drafted into beautiful training runs at Elysian, the Rose Bowl, and Griffith Park, with tons more on the docket, per my religion and the guidance of my Coach, Zandy Mangold.

I’m also excited to share more writing developments very soon, too, see you soon Ugly Mug and Moon Tide Press.

Started this with a half marathon in Malibu in November that I almost talked myself out of. Ending this year with a PR in the marathon. 700+ miles. 130+ runs. 80+ hours of running in less than a calendar year. I’d never ran over 7 miles before & here I am. Well, here we are. I couldn’t do this without my support system. Specifically @flynn.golf.lab. The amount of calls, encouragement & everything else. My friends who show up to races. My family. My everything. Anyway, here’s to another 700+ miles. God I love running
Also big shout out to @hoka I love the Clifton 9’s I have hoarded them so I don’t have to buy new shoes

A Saturday well spent in West Hollywood.

We had the best time fueling the LA @kithrunteam before they took off for their run, coming together for a morning of movement, preparation, and community as they continue training toward the Malibu Half Marathon. @runmalibu
