All because I chose hair. 🖤

This year I made a promise to myself to truly invest in education, growth and my craft — and it’s been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done for myself.

I’ve had the privilege of learning from some incredible artists — Andy Smith, Lesley Jennison, Ben Brown, Candice McKay, Michelle Tanner and Christos Michailidis — each leaving me with something different, challenging the way I think and reminding me how much there still is to learn.

After all these years behind the chair, I’m proud that I’m still curious, still hungry and still willing to be the student in the room.

I’m incredibly grateful to Style Bar, Schwarzkopf Professional and GHD for the opportunities, support and experiences that continue to push me forward. And to Andrew and the team at Scar, thank you for welcoming me into your space and being part of this chapter.

Hair has taken me places I never imagined, introduced me to people I never thought I’d meet and given me opportunities I once only dreamed about.

And somehow, I still feel like I’m only getting started.

All because I chose hair. 🖤

BEN BROWN (International Cutting Master)
Ben’s teaching is rooted in theory, aiming to remove guesswork from haircutting. His goal is simple: to empower stylists with the skills and knowledge to cut hair with confidence and precision.

TAMMY (from our very own scar)
Tammy Berman is renowned for luxury hair transformations and editorial-inspired styling. She has worked with international artists, leading names in the music industry, and international television productions.

FLO (of Excentric on Kloof in CT)
Flo is a 2-time winner of the Wella Trend Vision Award South Africa. But his greatest achievement isn’t the trophies. It’s the multiple learners he’s transformed into successful stylists in his salons.
His biggest passion is making complex cutting principles easy to understand.

FABIO (of Shag High Voltage in PE and Sanctuary)

Fabio has spent more than 25 years behind the chair and as co-owner of SHAG High Voltage Hair since 2012, his philosophy is simple: think twice, cut once. Fabio is also a Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) Artist, trained in New York, and has completed advanced barber education with Menspire Academy. His accolades include Barber of the Year, Trend Vision Winner, and Trend Vision People’s Choice Award.

Cape Town for a little creative reset ✂️

This weekend @thathairpaige and I had the opportunity to learn cutting from the incredibly talented @benbrownhair hosted at @____scar____ . Quite possibly the coolest hair salon in Cape Town.😎✂️

There’s something so inspiring about putting yourself back in the position of being a student. Watching someone like Ben work, understanding the thought process behind every section, every angle and every decision, and then getting to put those techniques into practice ourselves.

And honestly, travelling for education just makes the whole experience that much more exciting. Getting out of your usual environment, being surrounded by different creatives and completely immersing yourself in learning is SO good for the soul and for the creativity.

Cutting is such an art, and this class reminded me how much there is always still to learn, refine and explore.

I came home feeling challenged, inspired and so excited to bring everything I learnt back behind the chair at The Balayage Bar.

Thank you Ben for sharing your knowledge with us, and to @runningwithscissorsconsult and the Scar team for having us. What an incredible experience. 🤍✂️

We travelled all the way down to @____scar____ for an incredible day of cutting
education with @benbrownhair , all the way from the UK. I’ve come away from this training having learnt so much and feeling genuinely inspired to keep pushing myself, refining my skills and looking at cutting in a whole new way.
There’s something so special about being surrounded by other passionate stylists, learning from someone who has so much knowledge and experience, and being reminded that there is always something new to learn behind the chair.

And getting to do it all while spending a few days in the beautiful city of Cape Town made it even more special. ⛰️🥹
Feeling very grateful for the experience, the education and all the inspiration I’m bringing back with me to Joburg.🤍✂️✨

A little reminder that you never stop learning… especially when you genuinely LOVE your craft. ✂️

I had the best time at an incredible cutting education hosted by Scar Salon, with education by the insanely talented Ben Brown.

And let me just say… cutting is 100% one of my favourite things to do behind the chair. 😮‍💨

The more I learn, the more I realise just how much I bloody love creating a beautiful shape, movement and a cut that actually works for the individual client.

Feeling inspired, educated and very excited to get back behind the chair and put it all into practice.
