How I Went From a 3:49 → 2:53 Marathon in 2 Years 🏃🏾💨 @lamarathon

No secret workout. No shortcut. These were the 3 biggest changes I made:

1️⃣ Consistency + more volume
I focused on stacking consistent weeks and gradually increasing my mileage over time instead of trying to improve overnight.

2️⃣ Easy days EASY, hard days HARD
I stopped racing my easy runs. Easy days became recovery, rest days were taken seriously, and I saved my energy for my two quality sessions each week.

3️⃣ Structure + strength training
I followed a structured running program instead of just running whatever I felt like, and I strength trained 2–3x per week to become a stronger, more durable runner.

3:49 → 2:53 wasn’t one workout. It was two years of consistency.

I completed my first half marathon today. Add me to that 1% club !

First things first , I want to say thank you to all those pictured and not pictured. You each believed in me at times when I didn’t. You all encouraged me and pushed me to keep going. I am so grateful to have such great people in my life who push me to be the best version of myself. I love you all 🥹🫶

This half marathon meant so much more to me than just a race. It showed me I can do hard things and I am so capable of doing great things even when life doesn’t make it easy. I started running to find myself again and I found myself and so much more. I am so grateful to be able to move my body and do amazing things like this. 💜

I’ve completed the Long Beach Marathon. It became my second-fastest marathon, and I feel truly amazing and very proud. I did a lot better in this marathon than in previous ones. And all my recent training and hard work are finally paying off.

This racecourse was very hard and challenging because of the rain and the extra hills. At mile 16, my legs began to feel heavy, making the marathon even harder. While I was running, I was thinking about my dad and how he was with me the whole time, cheering me on in spirit.

I was trying to aim for under four hours, but unfortunately, I hit a wall at around the 23-mile mark, and my nipples started to bleed. So I had to proceed with caution because I was not prepared for that outcome. My legs and my hamstrings were extremely exhausted after I hit the finish line, and I was in pain, but thankfully, I was able to meet with my friends, and we all congratulated each other. Overall, I feel extremely proud.

Thank you to all my friends and the Dutch Bros teams for cheering me on. I was representing both the Upland and Montclair locations as I was dressed up in my Flying Dutchman outfit. Thank you to everyone for also sending me messages throughout the race and sending positive vibes and support.

For the rest of the year, I have a half marathon in Malibu Beach and a 10K in Pomona that are back-to-back. And I have one final marathon in Big Bear towards the end of the year.
