Meet Amy Gadney, one of our Kindred artists, working at the edge of painting, play and possibility.

Amy’s practice moves between abstract expression and assemblage, swapping the daunting blank canvas for discarded doors, road signs and even fragments of a rotting haulage truck. She cuts, layers and rearranges found text and materials, creating works that feel more like a conversation than conventional paintings.

For Amy, the work doesn’t sit neatly “in the art world.” It exists in uncharted territory, somewhere between rubbish and revelation. She talks about having an ongoing dialogue with her materials: oil pastels on smooth surfaces, metallics, glow-in-the-dark paint, even iron filings as pigment. Accidents are welcomed, rules are left behind and play is taken seriously.

Painting road signs becomes physical and active. Pink accents are charged with sweetness while yellows flicker between warning and infection. And her light boxes never reveal the whole story as much as you look. Only fragments at a time.

Amy’s work is raw, primary and deeply connected to a sense of being in the world. A conversation that never ends.

Thank you @amygadneyart for such an inspiring introduction to your work 🙏
