Recent 📖 pickups: "Oh My Goddess" by @fiori_lorett just epic large scale neo-trad/floral/Japanese/ornamental blend, super cool meeting her at @mecca.tattoo during a quick guest spot. Then a new @blackdaggerbooks featuring @psychicarmor which is friggin' sick. Finally a couple of ebay finds for cheap, "Ornamental Archive" by @russabbott , "Suits Made To Fit" by @adrianatak , and "Underway is the Only Way" by @the_grime & @stateofgracetaki which is a crushing compilation of artists and interviews!

Since 1986, Chris has lived and breathed pigment, dispersions, and ink production. He’s been making ink with Lou and Jackie since 2012, and has even developed colors for the permanent makeup industry.

Every Modern Tattoo Ink color starts as a design on paper. Then Chris makes it behave in a bottle. (Anyone who’s ever wrangled pigment knows that’s no small feat.)

Fun fact: Chris mixes ink all day with old TV shows playing in the background. Judge Judy, Maury, The Andy Griffith Show, and Barney Miller keep the lab company. Justice is served, and so is the ink. 📺⚖️

Meet @russabbott , Creative Director at Modern Tattoo Ink.
27 years of tattooing. Zero chill about geometry. Russ specializes in Kumiko-inspired geometric and ornamental color work, the kind where every line has to earn its place.
He owns Ink & Dagger Tattoo in Roswell, Georgia, founded Tattoo Smart, and now leads our color system and the CORE palette at Modern Tattoo Ink. If you’ve ever wondered why the color looks this good, that’s him.
Fun fact: Russ absolutely despises fake window shutters that couldn’t actually cover a window. If it doesn’t function, it doesn’t belong. Same rule applies to his tattoos.
Drop a 🎨 if you love color work as much as Russ does!

New page and new challenge for the betterment of the tattoo and art community starting October 1. There’s a few of these types of monthly events that haven’t always resonated with me. This is open to all who love tattoo art. Professionals, apprentices, appreciators, and artists of all kinds. I hope you’ll join me in challenging myself.

Rules-
•Use the prompts to create a piece of art that each day in whatever medium you prefer. Pen, ink, watercolor, collage, whatever you want.
•Share it daily using the hashtags #tattober #tattober2026 and tag us here at @tat_tober

•Don’t offer advice unless someone asks for it. This is for improvement and unprompted criticism for can be damaging.

•Support your community and celebrate your differences. Don’t hate on someone’s practice. We all learn from this. Encourage others who have the same love for this as you do.

The challenge starts October 1 for 31 days. I’m going to be sharing folks posts daily that I found inspirational. Feel free to tag me as well if you feel called to.

Save it, share it, support others.🧡🧡🧡

Is it load bearing? What if we moved it? Would the building collapse? Who designed this place? All reasonable questions to ask… but the fact is- there’s a pole there. We had to make the best of it.

Thanks to our support team member @tommyjmpp for jumping into this with zero heads up on your way into work!
