Thankful to have family that feels like friends and cousins that feel like siblings. Thankful for half hour fun hikes with a little cliff jump at the end and six hour hikes that make you feel like a bad ass mountaineer.
Thankful to have a very fun job and thankful to have people that don’t give a fuck about that job — they just care about me. Family can be impossible and overwhelming and heartbreaking. Family can be fulfilling and beautiful and gratifying. At the end of the day, the people around us are all we have. So grateful to have these people around me.

I’m stoked to be featured in the Surfin’ Wisconsin USA exhibit at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum that will be on view through October.

Rex Flodstrom is a surfer, boardrider, paddler, guide, and artist. Rex is from Chicago and helped legalize surfing there. He is the author and illustrator of the children’s books, “Paddle Rat” and “Skateboarding Animals Alphabet.”

4. Rex Flodstrom towed a surfboard with a kayak to Grand Isle in Lake Superior and waited a few days for this swell to arrive. Perhaps this was the first time anyone’s surfed on Grand Isle.
