Double-trouble! Two lovely symposia coming up for anyone interested in sensory approaches to heritage, the arts, and the environment! First up, I’ll be joining the @natural_history_museum and @gem_heritage at @gnm_hancock , part of @northeastmuseums , on 21 October. I’ll be leading an outdoor exploration of spaces and places, investigating how we can build sensory relationships with the external areas of museums and galleries, and how those relationships can help foster feelings of safety, trust, and belonging. Places are very limited. Then, 13th of November it's the Sensory Symposium at @mk_gallery where we'll be delving beyond making the case for sensory engagement, exploring how sensory practice is reshaping interpretation, meaning-making, and public engagement across the cultural sector especially through co-production. Come meet some of our incredible collaborators from @mksnapcharity , @camphillmk , and St Paul's VI Unit and Outreach Service. ——— After making its way to the ‘Spring Salon’ @candidartstrust back in April , this work is now heading to Bath for @fringeartsbath at ‘ Permission to Touch’ , an exhibition of tactile art curated by @mollyrogersartist . Inviting sensory engagement through additional experiences to the visual , the exhibition materials/documentation will be also available in braille and audio description. ———- ‘Kumba - Base to Crown’ ; 2026 Sculpture ,ceramics ( self standing ) 50cm x 34cm x 34cm In ‘ Kumba - Base to Crown’ , the vessel becomes a metaphor for a body replenished with breath. This is also emphasised by the word ‘Kumba’ present in the title, meaning pot or vessel in Sanskrit employed to describe the mechanics of the breath in modalities of yoga/pranayama (breathwork) - Kumbhaka ( the stops between the cycles of the breath, inhale and exhale ). Between a vessel and an incense burner, the work’s interior accommodates burning incense thus bringing a sensation of warmth to the vessel’s body and releasing smoke through its nostrils. The protruding nose and highly textured crown ( alluding to the crown of our own head) contrast with the round form of the overall vessel, inviting touch as a way to engage and connect more closely with the work. The body of the work becomes a reflection of our own … a vessel for elemental interplay and innerplay, a space held for healing, a body map, a journey, a remembering… ——— ‘Permission to Touch’ - Fringe Arts Bath 23rd May - 7th June ( PV 22nd May from 6.00pm) 📍Building 4, Newark Works 2 Foundry Lane Bath , BA2 3DZ #kumba #ceramics #sculpture #permissiontotouch #fringeartsbath
