RVD. READY FOR PRIME TIME? 💥

ECW Magazine — December 1999.

Rob Van Dam was already one of the biggest stars in ECW, and by late ’99 the Whole F’n Show was right in the middle of the company’s biggest era.

This issue is pure late-’90s ECW — RVD on the cover, plus the lovely Dawn Marie, Fonzie, Taz, and more.

And this is just the beginning…

A LOT more ECW is coming to ig from the Hardway Archive. ☠️

"@therealrvd is undefeated in ladder matches"
And that alone tells you everything about the kind of legacy he carries.
He didn’t just wrestle with ladders, he reinvented them, he turned steel into creativity, danger into rhythm, and every match into a highlight the old days still brag about.
The way he blended his moves with the ladder wasn’t normal, it was signature, it was art, it was the kind of innovation only the real ones understood. Ladder matches were the wild beauty of WWE.
The nights where the crowd lived on every heartbeat, and #RVD stood right at the center of that chaos like it was built for him. You talk about legends of the ladder, he’s in that top five without debate, because nobody made the ladder part of their body the way he did. This club isn’t asking for a name, it’s asking for a standard, and #RobVanDam is that standard. If he ever steps into a club, it’s not to join it, it’s to elevate it.
Who is the king of the #Laddermatch?

@therealrvd is built different. Highrisk instincts, a body ready for anything, and the kind of ring IQ that turns chaos into control.
When he climbed the top rope and realized the 5 Star Frog Splash wasn’t possible, he switched mid‑air and shocked everyone with a perfect leg drop no damage to himself, no danger to Triple H.
That’s why the #WingedDragon fits him. He flies wherever he wants, however he wants.

This was @therealrvd’s first singles match with @therock, the energy was so strong you couldn’t look away, when I was a kid my brother told me #RobVanDam had the strongest legs in wrestling, and even #TheRock had to adjust his style when he faced him, in this match Rock used moves he had never used before because #RVD always pushes people to level up, twenty five years have passed and ten days ago he still looked the same, still sharp, still flexible, still special.
The #WingedDragon nickname fits him with real respect and real love.

@therealrvd Ranked number 1 in the #PWI 500 in 2002.
Now that the #WingedDragon is moving again, I remembered that wild promo with Triple H, and today is its 24th anniversary.
RVD didn’t just shine in PPVs, he owned the weekly shows too.
Facing every top superstar, every style, every division.
From the WrestleMania X8 kickoff, to Eddie Guerrero and that ladder match, to Undertaker, after Judgment Day, RVD even beat The Undertaker for the WWE Title, but Ric Flair reversed the decision. Then Brock Lesnar, then Benoit.
The match with Triple H that nobody expected to be that good. The storm with Jericho, the 8 men tag team TLC chaos, Ric Flair, the first Elimination Chamber, the jump off the pod, and that masterpiece with Shawn Michaels.
By Armageddon, WWE had no one left to stop #RobVanDam.

Why did @therealrvd hit a #GermanSuplex?
Years ago one man did this move against Steve Austin at SummerSlam 1997, the cleanest bridge, the safest landing, the purest technique.
Last week when #RobVanDam shocked the world, when the arena exploded and old memories of ECW and the goodol dayz came back, I was stunned twice.
The second shock was the German suplex. When we see this move we think of Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle, but there is a fourth master, the one who bridges, lands clean, protects the neck, and turns it into a Japanese art form. You can see it in every match he ever had, from his WWE title run against Edge to his fight with Cena. If he used it this time, he was saying the winged dragon still wakes up whenever he wants, still flies, still causes chaos, still unpredictable and untouchable. The winged dragon appeared over #TitanesWrestlingPromotions, and very soon he will show us another surprise.
The #WingedDragon #RVD has been seen in the sky of wrestling, stay ready.

First match after becoming a father ❤️ and you can picture those two little twins sitting next to their beautiful mom @katieforbes4real, pointing at the TV every time he moved. They were probably losing their minds watching their dad fly like a cartoon hero, doing things no normal person should be able to do.
That energy hits different when a man steps into the ring knowing his kids are watching, and @therealrvd wrestled like someone who just found a new reason to rise. Moments like this turn a match into a memory.
Now the job is harder for #RobVanDam, because before he only had to excite the crowd, but now he has to show his little ones what kind of man he’s been for more than thirty years.
He has to prove to them that their dad is the same hero they see flying on TV, doing things nobody else can do. We still want to see you in the ring, on TV, in arenas, anywhere wrestling lives, because legends like you #RVD don’t fade.
