Recent new favorite genre has been Kuduro, an Angolan dance/club style of music with fast tempos, heavy rhythmic percussion and extremely fat bass lines.

Kuduro meaning “hard ass” in Angolan Portuguese was born in the 1980s during a civil war as a means to bring joy and expression during such crazy times. It has a specific style of dance as well that mimics the movements of people who lost limbs in the war as a means to honor them and reimagine their sacrifices with dignity.

I always find it so interesting how many of the world’s dance genres are born out of trying to find light in the darkness. That’s why I love DJing so much. I get to bring people along a musical journey through time and liberation. Dance is truly revolutionary.

Listen to this powerful speech from Karen Hylton, the mother of Karon Hylton-Brown, who was murdered by the DC Police in #2020

Karon was chased into traffic by officer Terence Sutton on October 23rd, 2020. It is illegal to pursue people in auto chases in DC.

Karon was then sent to the hospital as a John Doe, despite officer Sutton saying his name in the body cam footage.

Karon later died in the hospital.

During the #election2020 night, Karen not only demanded Justice for her son, but also expressed the importance of educating yourself on the politicians you elect.

It isn’t enough to vote for someone just because. You need to know what they stand for.

These words remain true in 2024 and every election onward.

See more from the 2020 election in DC and how it informs the 2024 election in the docuseries “Free The People” by clicking the link in our bio.

June 23, 2020 - Washington, DC.

Nothing was the same after this day. @jazzyrxn11 and I had been documenting the 2020 BLM protests for only a few days before this, but this was the day we realized truly how important it was for us to make @filmftp.

After 4 long years, we have finally released it officially to the world for everyone to witness the truth of what transpired in the streets of 2020, as it happened in real time, from a first person perspective embedded in the frontlines.

Here are just some of my favorite frames from that day. In particular I want to shout out that not only was this the first wildest day we experienced (but certainly not the wildest we would) but that my brother @jazzyrxn11 did this shit on his golden birthday (23 on the 23rd)

I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to this man for being my partner in crime (allegedly lol) over these years and how integral he was to making this film possible. Incredibly grateful to see him reach the big 27 today. Y’all go wish him a happy birthday and stream @filmftp for the freeski on YouTube.

We did this shit completely independently so it would be major if y’all watched it in full. We ate a lot of pepper spray to make it 😂

Free The People – Part II: Pot, Kettle? Still Black.

As the summer of 2020 heats up, so do the streets especially after an illegal kettling and arrest of 41 BLM protestors on August 13, 2020. Violent clashes breakout during the 57th Anniversary of the March on Washington mixing with Former President Donald Trump accepting the Republican nomination for a 2nd Term. Before the city can catch its breath though, MPD shoots and kills 18 year old Deon Kay in Southeast DC.

Free The People – Part I: Free Food For Freedom Fighters

On the steps of St. John’s Church at the corner of 16th and H St. NW, DC, across from The White House, a young group of Black Washingtonians with the help of a few neighbors from the city started a grassroots org called “Earl’s First Amendment Grill (@earls1st / @the_purposeparty) to fuel the BLM protests 24/7. But after weeks of camping in the streets and taking over Black Lives Matter Plaza, they became the scapegoats for police violence with several of their members getting arrested and serving time. All they wanted to do though, was serve free food.

Discover their story and the true frontline history of the 2020 BLM movement in the @rxninlife docutrilogy “Free The People” releasing for free on @youtube, Sunday June 23rd.
