I thought 51 would be just another birthday… instead, it feels like a beautiful reminder of how blessed I am—especially to have someone who loves me and always has my back.

On location for an early morning coffee with @hellobeakim and @sonora.alba The Cloudy, misty skies over Southern California were perfect for this shoot and who doesn’t love coffee on a morning like this?
We had the chance to catch up with the ladies and check out the new Toyota Land Cruiser. It’s the ultimate adventure SUV, and Bea’s definitely been putting it to good use this summer.

It's always nice when a project lands close to home. This one was shot in SoCal with Bea Kim for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team and Toyota.
The 2025 Land Cruiser has that old-school Toyota feel and will work well for everything Bea’s got going on—mountains, coast, wherever adventure she’s headed on next.
We had a moody, misty morning, which worked great for linking up with Bea and her friend Sonny to grab a coffee and catch up.
Thanks to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, Toyota, Bea, Sonny, Ryan, Cory, Kevin, Ella, Jay, and Dave for making it a smooth one.

Letting Go vs. Quitting

Sometimes, the most challenging trails aren't the physical ones we ride, but the mental and emotional paths we navigate in life.

Recently I was a guest lecturer for a course at Boise State University called "Peace and Well-Being in an Age of Anxiety". During a Q&A with the class, a student asked me about the toughest part of my journey on the Ho Chi Minh Trail while filming "Blood Road." It wasn't the treacherous terrain or the grueling miles, it was something far deeper: the difference between quitting and letting go.

You see, there were aspects of the filming process that didn't go as planned: it wasn't organized the way I wanted it, I didn't get to choose my own teammate(this ended up being for the best, Huyen changed my life), I didn't get to see the route ahead of time. It would have been so easy to give up, to throw in the towel and call it quits. But that's not what I did, and that's where real growth happened.

I learned that sometimes in life, we have to let go of our expectations, our desires, and even our need for control. We have to embrace the uncertainty, adapt to the circumstances, and find a way forward, even when it feels like we're losing control.

Letting go doesn't mean we're weak; it means we're strong enough to accept the things we can't change and courageous enough to keep moving forward. It's in those moments of surrender that we discover our true strength and resilience.

Sometimes, great projects don’t see the light of day and end up collecting digital dust on hard drives. And unfortunately this happened last year with @kirtvoreis_allride. However, there’s so many rad moments from it that I wanted to share.
The idea for it was to have Kirt imagine himself in as many famous movie scenes as possible while he’s laid up at home with a broken ankle. As a huge fan of @stanleykubrick, the first scene I wanted to put him in (wearing the then new @foxmtb gear) was the red bathroom scene. It’s a wide, tension building moment and has no place for a mountain biker to appear. So I decided to place him directly in the middle of @jacknicholsonofficial and Phillip Stone’s dialog to bring a bit of Kirt humor to the scene.
The green screen was lit perfectly by @ry.dp and was composited in AE with some help of 2.5D lighting. A few hours later and here’s the final result.
