This week’s featured artist in The Crowd is Ryan Stephenson! Ryan Stephenson is a theatre-based creator, physical comedian, and clown artist whose work explores identity, vulnerability, and transformation through embodied storytelling. A former member of Team Canada in gymnastics, Ryan brings a refined physical intelligence to his theatrical practice, emphasizing presence, timing, and emotional precision.

Ryan has performed internationally with large-scale theatrical productions, including Cirque du Soleil, where he developed a deep understanding of ensemble work, visual storytelling, and audience engagement. While this experience shaped his professionalism and stage awareness, his current artistic focus is the creation of intimate, character-driven clown and physical theatre works.

He is actively studying under renowned clown teacher Misha Usov through the Inside Clown methodology, which emphasizes authenticity, simplicity, and the performer’s relationship to the audience. This training has been central to Ryan’s shift toward emotionally honest performance rooted in play, failure, and presence.

Ryan’s creative process is highly material and exploratory. He designs and builds custom costumes, props, and set elements as part of his character research, using visual and tactile experimentation to inform movement and performance. Access to a dedicated creation space is essential to this process, allowing sustained investigation without the pressure of immediate production outcomes.

Rather than focusing on spectacle, Ryan’s work centres on human-scale storytelling—moments of humour, fragility, and connection that invite audiences into shared reflection. His long-term creative vision is to develop touring clown and physical theatre works for intimate and mid-scale venues, contributing to contemporary theatre practices that value presence, play, and emotional truth.

🎉 We are performing September 26th!

A FREE afternoon of art, adventure and discovery for the whole community.

As part of BPAC’s 15th Anniversary Season and Culture Days, WANDER – Art in Unexpected Places invites everyone to come inside, explore and experience The Burlington Performing Arts Centre in ways you’ve never seen it before.

From 1pm–4pm, families, friends and visitors of all ages can wander through the building at their own pace, discovering more than 30 artists bringing unexpected spaces to life through circus and acrobatics, dance, live music, visual art, storytelling, magic, immersive sound and more.

Catch circus arts on the Plaza, help create a new piece of artwork for BPAC, make music with your cellphone in the orchestra pit, discover performances in surprising places and explore parts of the building you may have never seen before.

There’s no right way to WANDER. Pick up a map and schedule when you arrive, choose your own adventure and see what you discover along the way.

Bring the family, bring your friends and come WANDER with us!

CreekFest ‘26 was gorgeous! And our musicians, poets, teachers, and dancers even more so. 🙏

A thousand thank yous to the contingent of artists who took to Old Mill Road Bridge over the course of the day to offer their work.

We couldn’t get it all on camera, but here’s a baker’s dozen to spotlight the day.

Thank you to the @rwartsfund and @cityofkitchener LoveMyHood and Community Grants programs, which helped fund significant aspects of the day. Thank you to the 25+ organizations that brought beautiful info tables, arts workshops, and artisan goods to the festival. Thank you Creek Collective members @eyenhand for coming in from Nova Scotia and @carruthersdeborah from Montreal. Thank you to the beautiful neighbourhood of Lower Doon and the many neighbours and youth volunteers who pitched it.
