Call all balcony fans, we are almost sold out for Sunday 7th December, 2.30-4pm at St Gabriel’s Church, Pimlico for our first-ever Christmas concert, specially designed for families (recommended for ages 6+), with music, storytelling, and a chance to get close to the orchestra.

Expect festive favourites including Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Prokofiev’s Troika (Sleigh Ride) and a sing-along of classic Christmas carols with the orchestra.

In the interval, enjoy a mulled wine and “meet the orchestra” - our players will be around the venue, ready to showcase their instruments to any curious little ones.

At our concerts, it’s not just about listening, it’s about getting closer to the music. Our conductor, Alexander Conway, chats to the audience throughout, sharing the stories behind the music, what to listen out for, and even demonstrating moments live with the orchestra.

We believe that classical music is for everyone. Our concerts are designed to be accessible, enjoyable, and inclusive, welcoming audiences of all backgrounds.

“The LIO gave the evening the energy of a comedy-set mixed with a live gig and a dash of a history lesson thrown in.” - Ultimate Beethoven Symphony concert review.

Programme:
* Offenbach: ‘Galop Infernal’ (Can-Can)
* Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker Suite
Interval: Mulled wine and ‘Meet The Orchestra’.
* Prokofiev: Troika (Sleigh Ride)
* Christmas Carol sing-along
* Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture (Finale)

When I went to York, I had a feeling I would be surprised.

Surprised at how much more I would drill deep into what’s important to me and grow personally and in my faith. Surprised that I would meet such genuinely amazing people. Surprised at how much more there is to learn, discover and love about this calling I have not only to my music, but also as a Catholic young in the faith.

It really did not feel like a competition at all. I was just super happy the piece which I poured all my heart and understanding at the time of writing was showcased. I acknowledge it’s not an easy piece to execute, especially with limited rehearsal time, which is why I am so grateful to @excordevocal for their effort and lending their voices to not only the music but more importantly, the message.

Thank you to @nationalcentreforearlymusic and all the wonderful people involved in the Young Composers Competition 2024. So much goes on behind the scenes in making an event like this possible.

I am so grateful I met such wonderful people and (new) names to watch out for! My heartfelt congratulations go to @ryancolliscomposer and @charlotte_robertson39 for their triumph!

I shall be making the performance available as soon as possible on my individual YouTube and Instagram accounts but for now:

Last Thursday I had the absolute pleasure of taking part in a day of workshops and concert for the @nationalcentreforearlymusic ‘s Young Composer Award. To have been chosen for this final was an honour and I had such a wonderful couple of days in York.

A quick but by no means small thank you to Ex Corde ( @excordevocal ) for putting so much time into learning mine and all of the finalist’s music. The opportunity to work with you all was amazing and I hope you all know how appreciated you are for a fantastic day and performance!

Congratulations to all of the finalist I was able to spend the day with! All of your music was so inspiring and to hear everyone’s work come together in the final concert was fantastic!

Thank you again to the National Centre for Early Music for this opportunity. I feel so lucky to have been placed amongst so many incredible composers. To be so close to home having a wonderful day of music making felt so special so I genuinely cannot thank you enough!

About last night…
