Frames from Island life 🌸

Five years of coming back to this little home away from home, and what I’ve learned along the way matters more to me than the photos ever will.

This tattoo holds that story. I came here loving a place I didn’t fully understand yet, and one of the first things I learned is that this island doesn’t welcome just anybody, and for good reason.

Tourism here is complicated. It brings real opportunity, but it also puts pressure on land, water, the whales and communities that never asked to be a destination. That’s not something you understand from the outside; it took years of conversations with locals to really hear it.

What I learned:
🌺 Being welcomed somewhere is a privilege, not a right, and it comes with responsibility
🌺 “Off the map” isn’t really possible here anymore, but how you show up while you’re a visitor still matters
🌺 Listening to locals changes how you see a place faster than any amount of research on your own
🌺Loving somewhere means asking what it needs from you, not just what it gives you…

This tattoo is a permanent reminder of all of that... the welcome I was given, the mistakes I made figuring it out, and the love for this land, people and ocean that’s now part of who I am. 🌊🌸🐋
