13 years ago today, I played my first ever American football game.

I was 15 years old. I’d played football, rugby, tennis, you name it, but the moment I discovered American football I became obsessed. The complexity, the physicality, and the culture, not to mention the team bond and lifelong friendships that were made along the way. I wanted everything it had to offer.

I was offered scholarship to college and university competing in national championships, as well as playing internationally against Canadian, American and German teams.

Although I’ve gained a ton of memories from my time playing, the biggest thing Ive taken away from sport is who it helped me grow into.

High level sport exposes you to things very few experiences in life can.

- You learn that discipline is what gets you through the times when motivation is low.

- You learn how to handle pressure, how to compete, how to win and how to lose.

- You learn accountability. How to be accountable to yourself, your standards, and to the people who depend on you.

Who I am today is rooted in those years of sport. Now as a coach, those same values and lessons are at the core of everything I do to help my clients succeed.

What did sport give you that you still carry today? Let me know in the comments.

One of my favourite leg days at the moment 😇
(tbf I love all my leg days currently)

Pls note 📝 this won’t grow your legs just by going through the motions. You have to push yourself 😤

But enjoy some inspo for your next leg day 😎

Fighting for my life (and still trying to regain full leg function 😂😍🥵)

Definitely my new favourite leg day of the week 🤝🏼 @ryan.physiquecoach

Friendly reminder as well, a training program is only as hard as YOU make it.

Control. ROM. Push. 🔂

Let’s grow 🍑 🦵🏼

About a month ago I posted some shots of @ryan.physiquecoach talking about the impact of a well-timed mini cut on markers of fatigue/nervous system disruption, and how you can propel off-season progress forward through that mechanism.

Well, it certainly works on the other side too. At some stage of a mini cut, the heavy deficit will begin to outweigh the initial fatigue reduction from pulling down from peak food/training volume, and a reduction in progressive overload capabilities will be your sign that it’s time to get back to massing.

Now here we are one week after a considerable calorie increase, progressive overload flew back to high levels, and bodyweight took a big decline throughout this week.

Essentially, what I’m getting at is the need/preference for constant autoregulation of periodisation week to week. In an off-season, whichever route is going to offer the most consistent progressive overload is likely the best option, and this isn’t always an increase in calories/PED’s/training volume, and will often mean a periodic decrease in one or more of those variables.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be where I am today 🫣

Sometimes when a dream seems so far from becoming reality it can be dismissed and forgotten about but it was just not the right time for me to chase it…

Now it’s becoming my reality and 18 year old Renee would be so proud 💪

If you have a dream… chase it, please please don’t give up on it. It might not be the right time today but it will be one day, just never stop chasing it 💜

Get the right people on your team to support you every step of the way 🙌

This is probably one thing you’re missing within your training currently..

Your intensity 😮‍💨

I’m grateful to have learnt how to train hard & have those around me that push me further than I can push myself.

But my physique has levelled up A LOT post show & I truly freaking believe it is due HEAVILY to this factor.

My main training focus right now has been on ⬇️
💥 My range of motion
💥 My ability to control the weight in every portion of the movement
💥 The intensity in which I am pushing myself

My overall load amount has actually decreased to some extent. I’m lifting less weight across the board on certain movement patterns. But I’m lifting way better & I’m pushing myself harder than ever.

You need to work on your mindset & your ability to lean into the discomfort to push yourself to those limits.

If you’re not needing your rest between sets, you’re not training hard enough.
We need enough stimulus to grow muscle. It’s not an easy path.

Push harder 😤😈

Grateful for my coach @ryan.physiquecoach & my close support circle during my training lately @joshiedk_fitness @megaanndavis ⭕️
