The letting go part.
My heart wasn’t made for goodbyes, especially when it means leaving our son in a different state.

I knew this day would come, but didn’t know how it would feel.
There is so much pride, countless memories, and a touch of heartbreak mixed with the excitement of watching our kids begin their next chapter.
You spend 18 years helping them become independent, and then suddenly, independence is exactly what you’re supposed to give them.

We know it goes fast. They tell us. We see it. But it’s never quite as real as the day you drop your kid off at college or watch your firstborn move out.

Tim and Charlie drove to AZ after golfing with friends, sightseeing, and sharing meals with mentors. Addison started moving into her apartment, and I got the younger two ready for their first day of school. Then the ladies and I boarded a plane and melted in the triple-digit heat, as we launched Charlie into college life. Baylee lost two teeth upon landing which added to her excitement.

After wiping away tears, (yes, they appeared while ordering coffee and all the way through TSA at the airport and flight home) all that is left to do is trust that the foundation we’ve built for the last 22 years is strong, that the Lord will be like a wall of fire around our kids, and that Life360 won’t have an outage for the next 4 years.

To our amazing kids, the joy of the Lord you both embody is undeniable. Witnessing God work in your hearts and lives to shape you into the man and woman you’re meant to be has been one of God’s sweetest gifts this side of Heaven. Dad and I are confident that He has prepared the way for you as you embark on this new season in college and in your own little new apartment. I can’t wait to see how you transform your space and continue to become exactly who you are meant to be.

Sending hugs to all the other parents leaving their hearts in another town this month. Brutal.

BEAUTIFUL CITY

Last month, following the culmination of my four years in college, I decided to host a senior recital purely out of passion and gratitude for my musical experiences. Since October, I had been developing the idea—securing the venue, creating the recital’s theme, and reaching out to the many wonderful musicians God has placed in my life throughout this journey. This was the biggest event I ever tackled. However, these amazing people made this recital possible, and one that I look on with so much appreciation.

I had the wonderful blessing of co-hosting the program with my great friend @gregotterholt, and my accompanist @miikkibroersma, who not only made it more special with their undeniable talent, but were heartwarming and were willing to give a helping hand throughout the entire process. The program wouldn’t be the same without the both of you.

I also had the wonderful privilege to duet with @jacoblann23 and @carlo.furlan.music, two of the most talented but moreso kindest people I know.

Thank you to @nehemiahjones.m, who composed and conducted an original work for @jacoblann23 and I on 2 Samuel 12, and vocally participated and conductedthroughout the entire recital .

To everyone who contributed their time, talent, and support, thank you for making this recital possible. Your encouragement and generosity helped bring this vision to life, and I am deeply grateful for each of you. What began as a simple idea became something truly special, and this shall forever be treasured.
