Today is my daughter's birthday. Born in Tokyo and spending her early childhood in the heart of the city, she later moved to Zushi; then, swept up in the ambitions that drove my own tumultuous life, she relocated to Hawaii. Growing up there—while we managed a business on the U.S. mainland—she lived a life that took her back and forth between California and Hawaii, allowing her to be raised amidst two distinct cultures. We always encouraged our children to discover their talents; she loved to sing, and the guitar we gave her became an emotional anchor during her teenage years, leading her to join a band. She also developed a love for theater and even majored in it for a time. However, unable to settle on just one path, she moved to the mainland and—following my advice and the career path I had once. There, while interning and managing the blog for a small clothing brand, she became deeply immersed in photography, a subject she had minored in at university. She began documenting the life and music of the punk rock band her younger brother (eight years her junior) had started. Upon turning thirty, she finally discovered her true calling and began to come into her own truly. Along this journey, she met a husband—a man almost too wonderful for her—and they are now happily married, running a successful business centered on their shared passions and living with their beloved cat. She also reunited with her father after twenty-five years of silence, and is gradually learning to love this other father—with whom she shares the same birthday. Happy birthday, my daughter. 10 years of DYNMC 🎬 What a ride it’s been. When we first met at Michigan State, we never could have imagined where this friendship, and eventually this company, would take us. From shooting indie music videos in garages to working with Green Day. From the Oscars red carpet to hanging out with Mickey himself at D23. We’ve had the chance to travel, create, collaborate, and tell stories with some incredible people along the way. @dynmcfilms has become a huge part of that story too. Through our narrative wing, we’ve produced a feature film, a documentary, and several award-winning short films, bringing some of our own stories to life. DYNMC has gone through plenty of evolutions, challenges, wins, and everything in between. Through it all, we’ve continued to grow and have come out stronger than ever. None of it would have been possible without the countless crew members, cast, collaborators, clients, friends, and family who have trusted us, supported us, and been part of this journey. Thank you. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built over these first 10 years, and even more excited about what comes next.
