'The Way We Live' Opening Day
A collection of shots I grabbed.

It has been an absolutely fantastic trip visiting #TheWayWeLive at @theboxplymouth.

What an experience, I am on the train home to a now stormy Sheffield reflecting on an exhibition which holds the idea of 'Home' at its core. The shows curator @beth_beth_hughes continually inspires me and really knows how to research a show and respond with such authenticity and intimacy. The artists included in this exhibition all have extremely important voices and reflect their ideas back into our society with such a boldness to be intimate with their creative languages. It has been a privilege just sitting a chatting to you, getting your version of life and hearing how you translate it.

'This exhibition responds to Jill Craigies film ‘The Way We Live’ (1946) showing what post-war family life looked like in Plymouth and had taken a radical approach by engaging local residents rather than professional actors to ask questions about how people wanted to live.'

Here's a collection of artists that have adopted a similar approach to Craigies's methods, they all pay attention to their surrounding and are in conversation with what home is to them. And I cannot recommend this show enough to anyone in the region or anyone who's willing to make the journey its definitely worth it.

I excited to get back 'Home' to the studio to make more.

Everything is Learned IV
Ryan Gander, 2011

In this piece, Ryan Gander explores a narrative based on Auguste Rodin’s (1840–1917) celebrated sculpture, The Thinker. What we see is the stone upon which The Thinker sat. He has left the scene, but evidence of his presence endures. Indentations in the rock suggest that he sat deep in thought for some time. But what was the impetus behind his lengthy contemplation? Did his thoughts lead to a satisfactory conclusion? And what caused him to get up and leave? Storytelling is a common theme running through Gander’s work, and with this piece, he again prompts us to question the world around us.

ライアン・ガンダー、平成23年

こちらは、オーギュスト・ロダン（1840–1917）の名作『考える人』の物語をもとに、ライアン・ガンダーがその物語を掘り下げた作品です。
私たちの目の前にあるのは、『考える人』が座っていた岩のみ。『考える人』はその場を去ったけれど、彼の存在の痕跡は今も残っています。

岩のくぼみは、『考える人』がばらくの間、深く思索にふけっていたことを示しています。しかし、彼の長い熟考の背後にある動機は何だったのでしょうか？『考える人』の思索は満足のいく結論に至ったのでしょうか？そして、何が彼を立ち上がらせ、何故『考える人』はこの場を去ったのでしょうか？

こういったストーリーテリングはライアン・ガンダーの作品に共通して見られるテーマであり、この作品を通して、ガンダーは再び私たちの周りの世界に疑問を投げかけているのです。
